Hey all! I know it's not quite spring but I am sure most of us are still busy running. I bet most of us already have a couple of races scheduled! So how's it going? I took a couple of weeks off and was worried I had messed up on the half-marathon training. I sat and did some figuring and checking with RW and realized I am still way on track for the half! I wanted to step up training without injury and I think i have a good plan now! I'm excited. I also have a couple of 5Ks coming up. I may try to stick in a 10K before the half too if I can! So how is everybody's training planning coming along? Any races scheduled?

I used the RW Smart Coach plan for my half and it seemed to be pretty good. Their plan for the marathon was lacking a bit, but I just talked to people from my running group to change some things around so that I'll be more prepared. I just did my longest training run today (22 miles) for the marathon training. Next week I get to start the taper. YAY!!! Some people dread the taper, but after monster month I am totally looking forward to it. I have a 5K coming up but I'm not racing that one, just running in it. And then I think I am going to sign up for a couple more half marathons this year to complete a racing series. One of them requires traveling though and that seems a little scary just because normally I don't enjoy traveling. But I think I'll do it. And before I do another half marathon I want to squeeze in a 5K and a 10K to see how I have improved on those distances. But that won't be until about a month after the marathon.

it sounds like you have it all pretty well organized. i am not quite that organized. I have a 5K this coming weekend. I'm going to try to set a new pr though. My half isn't until the end of April. I'd like to pick up a 10K or two before then. My longest so far is only about 6.3 miles. But I think according to the schedule I'll do a 7-8 mile run this week. I'm not sure if I won't do a slower week this week though so that I can do the race Saturday. I'm not too worried about it though. I am doing about 20-25 miles a week now. It's taken me awhile to work up to that. I am hoping to stay on track for the half as I don't want to just have to "gut it out!"

20-25 miles per week is pretty good. I only got up to that in the past 10 weeks or so with the marathon training. And my peak week was just over 30 miles for the week. But I'm just going for completion, I'm not technically racing the marathon. I don't know if I'm super organized, I know people already signed up for everything they want to do. I kind of realized budgeting in these halves I wanted to do isn't going to work, so now I'm not entirely sure I'm doing another half this year. I'd like to though, just to see if I improve. However, I think my favorite race distance is the 10K. Since the group is doing a 5K I'll be going for a PR on that one. But the 5K the week before the marathon, I won't be going for a PR. I won't even be buying a timing chip just so I don't have the temptation.
