What are your Gardening Plans at the moment?

Lavender shrub in my garden - This is the largest lavender shrub I have in my front yard. It is French Lavender.

I love my gardening. Im just waiting for autumn to begin, then I want to put in a few more shrubs. At the moment it is still very hot. I am focusing on watering, weeding and mulching. I have a couple of borders I need to put around a couple of shrubs, to keep the water in. The plants that are doing best in this heat are thec lavender and rosemary. About four lavender plants came up on the own, so as soon as it is cooler I will transplant them to better locations. My lawn!!! It really needs reseeding, but again I need to wait for cooler weather. What are your gardning plans at the moment? Do you have new shrubs, trees, flowers or vegetables to put in? Or are you focusing on weeding? Im going to attach a photo of my largest Lavender shrub.

Hi jenny, I like gardening as well. Here the climate is almost the same all the year round. That is hot and humid. We need to water the plants at least twice a day during dry season. And we need not to water the plants in rainy day. Therefore only tropical plants can grow well and prosperously here. Other than some beautiful tropical flowers I love to grow some vegetable plants. I'm a lazy type of person so I pick flower and vegetable plants which are easy to take care to plant. They are flowers plants with succulent stems like what is in the attached photo. Yeah, I don't have to do the watering daily I plant long bean, lady's finger, sweet potato, maize, red pepper, etc. I hate weeding as the weeds grow tremendously fast. I'm tired of chasing after them daily. After I finish weeding here and there they grow thriftily again Have a nice day and happy posting

flower plant - This is the flower plant with succulent stems and leaves. Therefore I don’t have to water them often. It’s quite easy to take care of.
Oh gosh, I forgot to upload the photo. Yesterday I was unable to do the uploading though I had tried hard for many times. I’m trying to post one now.Hopefully I could show you the flowers which grow in my courtyard.

From my limited experience with tropical gardens are spectacular, but are a lot of work. Simply because you have a rapid growing season and a lot of rain and sun. I have been to northern queensland and saw a few tropical gardens and rainforest there. Just gorgeous. Growing vegeatables is a great idea and its nice to be able to eat your own produce.

Here in the US it is winter. I just want spring to come and your waiting for cooler weather. I hate to see fall come because that means winter isn't far behind. I don't garden at all. I have a friend that tells me what is a weed and what is a flower. If it gets any type of flower on it, I think it's a flower. The only weed I am sure of is a dandelion.

Not everybody likes gardening. In fact, in Australia, much smaller homes are becoming very popular, as the yard size means far less gardening.

A smaller home would make sense, especially for older people. For some reason I bought a house on an acre of ground and the driveway is a sloped 175 feet long. I don't know why I wanted so much ground. The land is a pain in the summer, since I don't garden and the driveway is a pain in the winter.

An acre is a lot of land to look after, particularly on your own. I couldnt manage one acre.

I hope they got rid of the second copy of this, I waited a bit to see if they did remove the other one..it sees so. I've been pretty disappointed with my gardening efforts since I moved here. I'm no green thumb by any means and I tend to kill things usually from neglect but sometimes by too much care. Combine me with bore water that leaves a white crust around the edge of things, sandy loam instead of soil, deathly frosts and scorching summer heat, drought and winds. I've spent and lost a lot of money so far and I keep saying "No more" but I keep trying My tomatoes, cucumbers and capsicum were very disappointing. The punnets of 6 tomatoes did nothing. The singles went 50/50; the little tomatoes did ok but the big ones all rotted. ^ in a punnet of anything is too much for me, seeds are too much and single plants are too dear, especially when they cark it. I'd like to have another go at it but I just cannot afford to spend any more money. I still have a lemon tree that has had 3 fruit on it for nearly a year. It's the tree's 3rd year. I also have a navel orange that is more robust. It developed 12 fruit early last year and most of them are now a good size though still green. So my plans are to do nothing at this stage except to water and mow and mulch. I'd like to create a few garden beds with propagated plants but I have no idea really. This is where I miss having a guy, especially one who likes to potter in the garden.

I gave up on vegetables, although I noticed from my responses that a lot of My Lotters do grow them. I would have had similar problems to you, although not the bore water, just a lack of water. I think here with the heat, vegeatables need to be grwon in a green house. It does cost money, I appreciate that. Luckily I have been able to get seedlings from my mother for some shrubs, and believe it or not, I now have some shrubs come up on their own. lavenders that grew on their own, and as soon as autumn starts I will transplant them.. I dont have a man to help either.

well, the first time I ever gave myself an allergy shot was after being stung by ants on my right hand (of course I'm right handed!) I had to hold the right hand still from shaking so I could give myself my allergy shot... when the allergist saw my reaction to fire ants he asked me if I ever had trouble breathing after being stung by a fire ant...

Currently waiting for the rain to stop and for the weather to warm up and then we have lots of weeds to deal with and possibly some planting to do...

Yes , the rain may be useful in many ways, but the result can be a whole lot of weeds. I have some weeds appear this year that I had never seen before.

Those lavender flowers are spectacularly beautiful! Did you know you can use lavender for flavoring in cookies and sweetbreads?

We're (USA) just getting ready to start spring...gardening/yardwork. I plan to start a garden this year using the 10 planters I bought two years ago. I also plan to plant a few more bushes and trees (my house is fairly new (2005)) in the part of the yard I haven't finished landscaping. I have very little yard and what I do have was planted in native grasses (buffalo grass, blue grama grass, sideoat, etc.). It's the only grass the dogs get to do their business. The rest of my yard is nature-scaped; that is, it's covered in rocks I pulled off my land and gravel pathways and native plants. Because of the heat (100-degree weather), all the plants are drought resistant and can tolerate full sunlight. This next week, I'll be weeding, pruning and preparing the planters for my garden.
