Duplicate Avatars?

I see several groups of users here that have the same Avatars. It gets confusing sometimes because I think the discussion was started by a friend of mine and then notice it's someone else.
Is this because people are purposefully trying to use the same avatar as others who are well known here? Or are the avatars available somewhere on myLot to choose from?

Well, if you don't set an avatar, you just get the default one.

yes,i had an avatar with a beating heart and now i saw it at someonelse..who's a newer member than me,but i can't say for sure that he stealed mine as i can't be sure of that..and also i have a friend with a kind of original avatar,as he searched for it very much on the internet,and one of these days i saw it at someonelse also..even though people say it's not the image that counts,it's the username,i must say that i recognise most of my friends from their avatar,because i kind of get used to his image more than the username,it's like a photo..and it can get confusing

I'm the same as you, heartsonfire, I recognize the avatar before I look at the user name. Sometimes I don't double check the name which is when I get confused.

I think that some people are doing it intentionally. I noticed that people who have good ratings get their avatars and questions stolen frequntly.

This is one reason why I like portrait avatars like yours. They're much easier to recognise and so far, none of them have been duplicated.

I think that many just like a certain look and choose it because of that reason. They may not know that they are duplicating. But, if it were me and I saw that mine is a duplicate I would change it. It would be kind of like walking in a room and seeing someone wearing the same dress that you had on.

It would be a shame for you to have to change yours, Butterfly. It's well known here and I enjoy reading your posts. It wouldn't be right for you to change it since you had it first.

I think it is probably available here. I personally have not looked because I just posted my pic instead. But yes, I have done the same thing with a friend. :)
I don't think people do it to copy others...I think they just have like tastes in pics. :)
Good question though.
