Are you interested in the responses to the discussions you start?

Usually if we start a discussion I would assume we are interested in what people have to say about it, but some of the discussion such as "what did you eat for lunch" Is the one that started the discussion really interested what every one ate? Here's another...You start a discussion and get pages and pages of responses. Are you interested in all of them? Do you read all the responses or do you lose interest in your own discussion and the responses after so many of them? I thought of this because I just responded to a discussion with some things that were important to me to say, but then I thought about it...I was post number 41 and I thought does this person really care what I had to say....I mean it means something to me, but it wouldn't mean nothing to them. I don't know just my mind thinking again

ya definitely . i will mostly read all of the responses i get for my discussions and i think that we put a discussion mostly to know about the others views and if we dont read the or interested in others responses then the discussion will have no use and its simply a waste . i am always interested in the reviews i get for my discussions .

I wouldn't really say it would be a waste. I guess the only other reason would be to start a discussion just to make money with having no interest with others are saying....Thats definitely not me. I am interested in everyones responses even in my old discussions if its been 6 months since i started the discussion and someone responds to it I still appreciate everyones input.

Messageme, the thing is, nobody makes money for posting a discussion - only if they comment back on the responses to keep the discussion moving.

To me, material posted in response to my discussion is very important to me. I read all responses received, and comment on most of them. for me, it is very important to know different perspectives on the discussion started by me.

Hi message! You have a very valid point to make. Some users starting very light and meaningless discussions and which does not ignite your imagination. They look ephemeral. It also appears correct that all the responses are not read because many users don't post their comments at all. I don't start a discussion till such time, when I find that I won't be able to post my comments. I invariably read all the responses and post my comments.

It is nice to get a comment back to what you have said. I prefer to respond to discussions where the person that started it is active in commenting on peoples responses.

I agree with you it is not a discussion unless theres actual discussion but I have seen some started where the poster never goes back and replies to anyone that responded. Guess thats what made me curious in the first place.

Totally agree with you here. I also do the same. I even bookmark the discussions or forums that I create. Besides, discussion wouldn't be a discussion if you're not answering back. Might as well create a poll in the first place. LOL

If I started a discussion, then I will try my best to post back to everyone's responses. I spent last week reply to over 60 responses. My computer was down for a couple of days, and it added up fast. But I wanted to read what everyone had to say, and if they took the time to reply to me I wanted to at least acknowledge their post.

I try to respond to everyone as well, but after so many and some responses being the same I think I start to run out of things to say And there are a few that I just don't have nothing to say to what they have said. But I do read all of them as well.

All the responses I receive to my discussions, mean everything to me, as I read them all no matter how many I get or how few, and I also comment on all the responses as well. I feel that if they are going to take the time to read my discussions and respond, then I am going to take the time to comment back, as it is only a common courtesy to do so. Also, if I comment back to them, then they are more than likely to respond to any other discussions I might start. I don't really start all that many discussions, but I do always follow up. I know there are some that don't, and that is thir loss, by not doing so. I also think that we can learn from the responses we receive. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

Yes, if I wasn't I wouldn't start them. It's not my goal to post discussions to get a lot of responses and a lot of money as a result. It's nice when that happens, but it's not the primary purpose.

I would hope thats not the purpose for anyone here...I think its a place to share and learn so many new things. I love talking to all here and I, myself have learned from mistakes just by posting things here and getting others opinions about what I have done or how I have over reacting to situations in my life. I think mylot is the reason I am able to understand things alot better and if I have questions or concerns about something at home I love getting opinions from so many different people before I react. I think its great!

We start discussions simply because we have something to share with others. It is this that really matters. As it is natural that we all have different thoughts and understandings, we can't expect those who respond to our discussions to be exactly in agreement with us. The significant thing is we share the joy of communication regardless of our divergence, which I think is what we care about. We regard simple discussions such as "what do you eat for lunch" as meaningless and boring, but it is a point that the person wants to share, so we should learn to respect them.

Well I respect all here at mylot. My question was do they go back and read what people have responded to discussions like that, but I have also learned just from posting this that if we weren't interested in our own discussion we wouldn't have started it in the first place. Thanks for the reply

messageme yes I am most definitely interested in the responses I get to myh discussions or I never would have posted it. how weird to think otherwise. I mean its not a discussion without responses and y es if I get a lot of responses it will take me awhile to answer them but yes the responses mean some thing to me.these people cared enough about my discussion to come here and take up their own precious time to respond to me so I owe them to have their responses mean a lot to me. these are my friends, my co mylotters and they did not have to respond at all ,but they did and I am interested in what they had to say. it does mean something to me. But unlike so many here I am not easily bored, and too I like people. I worked all my life in helping occupations where the care and welfare of others meant a lot to me, so yes i am interested in all that goes on in my discussions and others discussions. Why should not someone else's comment not mean something to me? Am I that shallow? no I am not at all.

Hope your not taking it personally to you, it was just a question in general. I too care about all my responses I get from discussions I start. I don't start a discussion unless I realy was wanting to know something so of course I would go and read all just to see what everyone had to say. I was just curious of how many just leave their discussion alone after so many posts but I guess those that do probably arnt going to tell me they do. Thanks for the response and Happy mylotting.

Hello, Messageme. Yes, I'm interested in all my responses. I don't start many discussions anyway, and when I do, I make sure that I have enough free time to check back for responses. Although any time is a good time to respond, it's usually in the first few hours after starting a discussion that you get the most responses, and it's good to be there to comment back and keep the discussion going. I've got to the stage now where if I see a discussion with pages of responses and no comments from the discussion poster, I don't even bother with it. I want to have a discussion, not talk to myself, and that's exactly what we're doing if the discussion poster just posts and runs.

I do go back to mine and read all the responses. I am interested in what others have said. I have also gone back to responses I made to another lotter's discussion to see what people said after me. So no matter what number you are I do look at your response and I try to reply when I can.

Of course, I always read the responses in my own discussion, because i really want to know another opinion, even though i started a discussion about ordinary thing. But its really interesting for me to read people's responses. Because sometimes i find some funny responses. And i really enjoy to read their answer.

Normally i will response to a discussion that is somehow similar to me and i will give my response and also read other people's response so that if i did anything wrong i can learn from other people's mistakes and change. So if i ever start a discussion i will certainly read all the responses i get if not i will just be wasting everybody's time including my own's. Cheers! :)

Personally, it is interesting to go thru some of the older discussions I have started and read and respond back to some of them. Even if these are discussions I might have started some time ago it might give me some ideas for other New discussions to start as well. I do go back over my discussions I have started. Maybe sometimes not as often as people feel I should due to time to be active here, but I find I learn something New from them all the time.

I have gotten over 100 responses from a discussion of mine before and I read every single one of them, along with rating every single one. A very recent discussion of mine got over 60 responses, and I read every one of them. I've never had a discussion where I didn't read each and every response someone left. If they bothered to answer my discussion, then of course I'm going to read it. And I think a lot of mylotters do that too. It's not hard to read them.

Amazing! I don't recall ever getting that many responses to any of my discussions. I wonder myself if I would respond back to them all. I know I would read them all thats a fact, but to respond to each and everyone. Rating as well. You go!

Most of my discussions...not this one, usually help me too in my personal life or just my life in general. I don't start too many discussions unless I have a question of some sort or I just want to know if my way of thinking is too rational or to over the top or not enough. I have learned lots here on mylot and I think I have bettered myself as well just because of getting the opinions of others. Thanks for your response it's good to know people use this as a helpful site and not an income...not that you make much anyways.

You have me totally thinking, i am interested and I wouldn't post anything as lame as what did you have for Lunch. But seeing that Ronaldinu, has made 8133+ posts and then hearing from MrNiceGuy that his post on Do you know what Aspergers is? would seriously bring into doubt that not only does Ronaldinu not give a rats about wether you know or not. He is purely in it for the volumne. So i would guess someone like this is not interested, others clearly are. So I wrote a discussion post on Do you know what plagerism is to counter Ronaldinu's first one, as i pretty much can't see the point in just starting that many discussions about stuff that is cleary already out there, not only out there but obviously easily found. I would in fact imagine that MrNiceGuy keyed in the words What is Aspergers, and the original post was the first thing he saw. Some people are just thick.

Yes all have this opinion. Everyone wants to get responses to their discussions but in some cases there are around 100 responses and obviously you will feel bored reading the similar responses or responses on the same topic again and again. Thus, you will end up reading and responding to only thirty-forty responses and rest will be left unread which is as per this discussion an injustice done to those who have responded after 40 responses. But what I say is don't bother if the discussion starter din't read it, some other person will who likes reading responses rather than posting. Be cool and enjoy posting and sharing here.
