i was so excited lately, because it's a promise to myself that at my birthday, i want to SHARE something to humanity - MY BLOOD - because i was thinking maybe, i can help save some precious life through my blood. i woke up early to prepare myself, went to the site early, so EXCITED at the prospect of donating my blood. with elevated cholesterol, still i am capable of donating, however, when they check my PLATELET, the medtech there said, i have a LOW HEMOGLOBIN COUNT, and is NOT qualified. i feel FRUSTRATED. i ask myself, what is happening to me, have ELEVATED Cholesterol level and LOW hemoglobin count. my next question is: would this lead to what? what will be the possible health risk of these? can anyone enlighten me with this, please? thanks a lot for reading..

hi alexysabelle, Oh... don't worry about it, I know you will find something to resolve that. What I know, people who work night shifts usually experience such low hemoglobin count or low blood pressure. Don't get frustrated. Cheer up! It is impossible not to get solution to that problem. There are various ways to get your normal blood count back. Go to your local health centers to have your blood checked. Research online ~ go to trusted sites that has medical doctors as their site advisor. You may check some of the information link I gathered; http://www.medicinenet.com/hemoglobin/article.htm http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/low-hemoglobin/AN01295 http://www.anemia.org/patients/faq/ It is still best to consult a physician on medicine or steps you are planning to take. Happy Lotting! Think positive.

Danitykane is so right smart lady, But this will fix all your problems. You take iron pills and vitamin C, better still take them and at the start until platelet count comes right, take i tablespoon of molasses in warm water, not the nicest taste but it is high in ferric (iron) content. As for your cholestral use apple cider vinegar, if you dislike the taste, (it burns abit swallowing, but is not acidic when in the body, ) Take a glass add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, must be apple cider, not ordinary vinegar, and put in a small glass of water, to improve taste add 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda. This makes it sweeter and less acidic, It will bring down the chloresterol, and also any hypertension that goes with it. The two things you have are relatively common iron deficiency stems from, inadequate diet, and the molasses and supplements fix that fast. The high chlorestorol is a by product of bad diet as well, things like fatty food and lots of fast food. Eat heaps of fruit. and leafy green vege and red meat. If a Vegetarian lentils, contain iron. You'll feel great fast, nothing serious.

its always a good idea to pop into your local doctor or Health Clinic every so often, and get a Full Blood count done, this will show anything missing and will also show other things like thyroid overactive or underactive, as these things can also make you tired. Sounds like it is just your diet tho, as I am sure the place where you went to donate blood would have referred you if you were a worry. main reason, Don't worry they'll take blood from you eventually, once you have stabilised. The only reasons they reject forever is in the case of people with Aids or any of the hepatitis things.

First off if you want to know what it means ask your doctor because I am not 100% sure. I read through other responses and so many different answers. If it means you are low on iron you can easily eat more red meat or take iron suppliments. AS for the other stuff not sure, thats where talking to your doctor comes into play.

I think this is quite common. If you improve your diet with better nutrition and more iron, you should be okay to donate blood next time you go. You can ask your doctor.

alexysabelle well be grateful you found out you are anemic. this could make you feel so tired you would think you had been digging ditches all day. that is what low hemoglobin count means, surely they told you in lay terms, in other words you need to make more redblood cells, they cannot legally take blood from a person who has not any to spare, and you are one who need to make more red blood cells. the health risk is severe anemia and I am anemic so know what I am talking about, you will be so tired you feel its just hard to walk across the room. Now depriving you of blood will make your anemia worse and giving low redblood cell blood to others would only make themn anemic. the good news is you can bring your redblood cell count up to normal by taking iron supplement and eating iron rich foods. also do wo rk on your high cholesterol count.

Try eating foods rich in Chlorophyll like green foods. Chlorophyll is the raw materials needed by our body in creating red blood cells and hemoglobin. It will help improve your condition and can prevent illness. Spirulina and Moringa are good examples of these green foods. :)

I admire people who donate blood. They say blood is life so categorically speaking, you are sharing a part of your life if you donate blood. Haven't tried doing it yet for I cannot stand the sight of too much blood. Kudos to you alexysabelle for trying, though it didn't materialize yet, your intention of doing it is already something. And, it also helped you discover earlier something to correct within your system so don't fell dejected.
