I was wondering if you have your own personal email address or if you share one with a friend or significant other. If you have your own are you the only person to access the account or do you let other people into your email. I've always had my own personal account, and I find it really strange that people share. How do you feel about it?

I have five email addresses for official and personnel purposes. But I have never shared my email addresses with my friends or family members. Only I have access for that accounts.

I totally understand having multiple accounts. I have multiple accounts as well. It seems I can only keep an account for 3 years before it fills up with junk mail, and then on to the next one, but I sometimes go back to see if anyone from the past is trying to contact me.

I have almost half a dozen email addresses which only I can open. They are there for different purposes - some official and some personal. It is not a good idea to share your email address with another as sometimes one likes to exchange mails which one does not want others to read.

wow half a dozen is a lot of email. Do you check them all every day? I have a few addresses as well. One I use to sign up for things on the internet and the other I use to communicate with my friends and family.

good point, I'd forgotten about the limits... I guess they still have limits today, they are just much larger.

In the good old days there were storage limits and so it became necessary to open several email ids - some are now idle.

I did not know that people shared the same email addresses. I wonder why they would do this, since you can make an email account for free in about two minutes.

yes it is very strange. Both of my brothers share their accounts with their wives, and my cousin used to share one with her husband, but they recently divorced and so I received an email saying to contact her at a different address now. I also once had a friend who said that his girlfriend dumped him because while he was out of town she read an email that he received from an ex-girlfriend and she didn't like the content. When I asked why she was reading his email he said he always shares email with his significant others. Weird!?!?

I don't share an e-mail address. Even if I trusted a family member or friend with my life, it would just feel to invasive to share an e-mail address. I prefer the privacy of having my own e-mail address. I guess with kids or young teens, parents might share an e-mail address with them just to make sure they aren't being contacted by predators they meet on the internet or something. If the parent didn't recognize the e-mail address they would be aware enough to ask their child about it. My sister and her husband both have separate e-mail addresses, but they also have one joint e-mail address. I'm not sure why.

That is a good point about children. I wasn't considering that when I made the post, but I think it is also important for parents to have access to all of their kids internet accounts... email, facebook, myspace everything. You have to be really careful to make sure that your kids don't share information that may result in them becoming a victim.

Hi glords, I have a few emails but only for my own view. I did not like to share it to anybody because it may contain some personal information that the sender do not want anyone else know about it except me. I also use my e-mail as my formal communication with some organization and I am sure they do not want me to share their view and/or stand on certain issues with unauthorized person. But I have one email account that I share with my girlfriend (ex) before. Every time we want to email each other, we just email it to that account. So we can access it both. here is no other email going to this address. Only she and I known this address. Sharing a email address(es) is something strange for me too except for certain purpose like mine before. I would not share it even to my closes friend. It is personal matters.

i had my own personal email address and my boyfriend has an access to my account. i give him permission to open my account. its not that he never trust me. sometimes i do not open my account and i ask him to open my account. besides i do not have anything to hide on him. thats why i give him permissions.

That is cool... it just seems to me that he wouldn't need to look at your email because he would trust you as well.

Hi, Glords, I only use my own mailboxes by myself. It's impossible for me to share them with others, even if my family and close friends. Anyhow, there is something I don't want to share with others. In another words, my mother got a new mailbox by my help. And I knew the password, but I never visit it. I think mailbox is so private. It's rude to visit others' without permission.

I have my own account, and mostly I'm the only one to use it, but there are rare occasions when my husband uses it too. He does have his own, but never uses it. Actually his mail is forwarded to my inbox, but the only mail he gets is from Facebook. I don't see a problem sharing. I think if I felt awkward about sharing it would show that I'm trying to hide something. Hubby and I have never been the type to hide something, we're both very open about everything.

i dont share my email or even password to my friend nor family nor boyfriend as its my privacy. i dont want them to interfere with my privacy to avoid any arguments in the future. same thing i do, i didnt ask my boyfriend email n open it. i guess we also need to have our own privacy, its not that they are our boyfriend nor husband we can share them everything, what happened if we broke up then nothing left to me.

sharing is good, EXCEPT for personal information's such as our e-mails..I mean sure we shared it with our friends but there is also a possibility that it might spread out and a lot people would know about it. :P

There is no point to share an email with someone because it is so easy to create one. The only instance when I shared an email was to sign-up to a video site, where I was not yet aquianted to the internet.

I have my personal email address and i never share it with others, even significant ones. I like to have personal privacy. When it is inevitable that i have to allow others to access my account, i remember to change the password afterwards. Some people share email account with others which is what i can' t understand. Everyone has some privacies that they don't want others to share.

I have three e-mail addresses myself. One for work One for pleasure One for websites that I sign up to where I know I'll recieve e-mail notifications, or spam from. And nobody else knows how to access any of these e-mail. The e-mail is my own information and there is no need for anybody else to have access to it. I don't check anybodys mailbox in their front yard, so you don't need to check my inbox.

I'm the only one with my email account. I am a very private person, I loathe it when someone reads my mail. That was part of the reason I divorced my first husband, I had nothing to hide but I deeply resented that he'd read my personal letters from my friends. I guess that comes from being an only child. By the way, there were a multitude of other reasons I divorced him. My present, and much much better husband, doesn't read my mail and I don't read his, without permission.

Hey glords! I have my own emails addresses! I have one on AOL and one on Yahoo! The one on Yahoo is the one I use for mylot only! The other address I use for all my other emails! I would never share my email address with anyone! I have my own PC which is in my home! I also have a laptop, but it isn't set up for use yet! No one can use my computer without my permission except for one person and that is my "computer guy" (also one of my closest friends)! He has a device that he put into my computer that he uses to "fix" problems from his computer to mine! It saves him time and trips to my house! But, he is the only person that I trust and even he doesn't know my email addresses or my passwords without my telling him! And he is the one who gave me his old laptop too!

I have known a lot of couples sharing email address, cos according to them they do not have anything to hide/secret to one another so its fine to share email add, but still I don't think it is right. I do not share it with anybody even with my husband, its not that I have something to hide but its personal.
