Hello! Today I want to speak about this book, that I love. First I read htis fantastic story of an ancient world, far away, full of emotions but also of necessity of hiding these emotions and feelings. So I was very happy when it was decided to make the film! This film was beautiful, but the story a bit different, not always the same of the book. I like the book very much, and I like the film too, but if I'd have to choose...I must say that I prefere the book! And you? What do you think about this? :)))

Welcome to mylot my friend... I was a book addict before... that was before... but now my eyes would surrender already... I could not continue reading for a long hours... so today I would prefer to watch films... I don't know if my ever favorite story written by a popular western writer was ever filmed... It's an old novel... I found it in our library...

I love books over movies. When I read books, I can make my own movie at the top of my head. There are number of times that I have been disappointed of movie version of the books that I read. I just hope that the movie for the 7th/last book of Harry Potter will be splendid.

Hi, This is good question what I prefer? Hmmm Book is good option, because book is longer than movie. And than you read book than you have readed one chapter you are stop reading and fantazise, or thiking what be ? But film is too good you are seen all moments with your eyes and than you go sleep, you can dream about it. I don't now what I chose!

though i have read the book and watched the film I would still prefer the book. there are scenes from the book that were not included in the film. and the book still stimulates your imagination rather than watching it in the wide screen.

i prefer the book because it's much more detail.after read the book, when i watch the film, it feels so weird.i mean it lost it's detail.but unfortunately, the book is little bit controversial because Golden revealed the geisha who become his source when he actually can't.but overall, even this is fiction, this feels so real to me.thx

I actually preferred the book. The movie was a bit slow and didn't capture the detail and emotions the book did.

Hi! Well, it's given, books are always better than when they are made into a movie. In the books, events and experiences are written in detail. Even what the thoughts of the characters are written, unlike in movies. So, yeah, i like books better than when they are made into a movie. What book are you talking about?

The beauty of any well written book is that, it makes you see things in your mind..you not only read those words, but you can actually enter in their world..imagine how it would be and become a witness to the story. I have experienced this many times..I can actually see Chio-Chan, I can feel her pain. That's exactly what I call a well written novel. I was consumed by this story.. to the exotic world of Geisha. I could actually hear the ruffle of their silk kimonos.. The movie is good..but when one has read the book, and then watch the movie..it feels like a trailer of the movie..you see everything in bits and pieces, and it never touches the depths of the story. It's a pity that even though films are audio-visual medium, they can never bring the story to life the way books do. There are cinematic limitations.. and definitely you can bring alive each and every word from the book.. so had I not read the book, I would not have appreciated the movie as much..coz for me, it would be an incomplete story. The movie is visually very beautiful...but the book simply rocks!

I must say the book. Why? Because sometimes the film does not do justice to the book. I guess because they need to summarize the book to fit a 2 hour movie. So they need to cut some details of the story. Sometimes as you said, the story in the movies is quite different from the original story. I prefer the book because you get to practice your imagination. You do your own movie in your mind.

in my opinion as with any book to movie adaptation the book is always superior. Memoirs is an awesome read. Arthur Golden is as awesome considering this is first his first novel plus he wrote this book from a female perspective.

The movie is a significant improvement. The book has a lot of artistic value that automatically couldn't be expressed quite as well as a visual. It was mainly plot too, which always makes a better movie (I don't want to spend five hours reading plot when I could watch it in two). The only part that I remember being particularly interesting in the book is that the sisters don't really care for each other, and a gag about the geisha's hairstyle (I rarely lol because of books, but that one got me). Otherwise, I wouldn't say that I found the book significant in comparison to the movie.

i prefer reading a book than watching it in films,,, books are a lot more detailed than films plus while reading a book your imagination takes you to a new dimension and it feels good to feel excitement as you turn to the next page. i have read a lot like the lord of the rings, twilight and harry potter the film was a lot more different and i like it in books though the film was kinda good too

I have to agree with you! The book is amazing. I think books are always better. They have much more detail and books are much easier to get lost in then movies. But the movie was very good too just in it's own way.

I would definitely choose the book!! I am a book lover so I really love to read haha I love a good story :) It is a bit hard to choose between book and movie, since I also love movie (as I said I love a good story) but if I really have to choose, then definitely the book :P Book leaves you open to your own imagination, you could imagine the character, the situation and all those stuff based on your expeerience or based on your fantasy whatever you wanted. A good writer will paint the image in your mind using their words. I have an experience though, there is this book by Jodi Picoult - My Sister Keeper, I love this book it is the first one I bought from her collection (I've almost bought all of it now) and when that book was made into film I was excited and nagging my husband to take me to watch it. But, the story line is quite different, I guess they need to cut and modified a bit to fit into about 2 hours movie. And the ending is also different .... :( Im not saying its not a good ending, but its just a different and opposite ending. Sometimes movie would make the story that sells, but books, they dont only make story that sells but also the story that reflect the author or real life :)
