Natural or Beauty Enhancer? What makes a woman use weaves for their hair?

This has been kinda puzzling me for quite some time now. Don't get me wrong. I have a beautiful woman in my life whom I love very much that sometimes wear weaves and change them about every three weeks. I think she looks very beautiful when she does wear a weave, and women that I see walking everyday who wear weaves or extensions look pretty good and it does fit them, but my question is this. Why do so many women from all around the world wear weaves or extensions? Is it a true beauty enhancer or do you keep it natural? What are your experiences with weaves and extensions and how often do you change styles?

Ive never used them (well I wear a blonde wig when Im fancy dress as Lady Gaga lol) but I do have very fine hair and I know women who have used them for this reason. You dont have to use them to add length but just thickness if you wish to do so. They are useful to chneg/update your style etc without having to visit the hairdresser so much.

I guess it does save on going to the hairdresser all the time. Before my girlfriend started putting in her own weaves and pieces she used to go to the hairdresser and it wasn't cheap.

There are exceptions, but for the most part women get extensions or weave to look better. Whether it's to give the woman a fuller hairstyle, longer hair or different texture, its just another way for us to change/enhance our looks. I personally put it in the same category as make-up and accessories; just an easy addition women can use to perfect their looks. I've personally haven't gotten a weave but I have thought about it. It would make it easier to manage my hair.

Great info. It does make a lot of sense that women use weaves or extensions to look better. My girlfriend told me that she uses the weaves sometimes just to give her natural hair more volume like you stated in your response. Giving the hair a fuller hairstyle is a great benefit.
