Oh No, They Tried To Kill My Friend

A friend of mine, whom actually the father in-law of my wife's youngest brother mauled by five unknown male persons. I pity him that he suffered bruises and cuts all over his face, from punches and stones stroke/hammered on his head. You cannot almost recognize him, his face changed a lot.
This happened last Sunday when he was asked by his daughter to collect loan payment, somewhere in a known drug dealing place in the city. We cannot help to assume that he was suspected to be a police asset by those people.
We reported the incident to the police authorities, and cops even accompanied us to search the place, in able to get some information about the people who mauled our friend. But we never received any feedback, maybe people in the place are just scared to talk.
In the evening, somebody went to see our friend in their house. They told the family that they will shoulder the hospital bills including the laboratory expenses. And asked our friend to not let the incident reach to police blotter. We thereby suspect that the drug-lord commanded his men to keep our friend silent. (by this time, they already know the name of one of the five suspects.)
What?! Are they trying to bribe the man? After they seriously injured an innocent man?
If you were the one mauled by those people, what will you do? Will you sue them or will just accept the money and keep silent? Any reactions?

hello neil,
This is very common here in our country my friend, that give the powerful personalities right and guts to abuse the lower/middle and the poorest people.(damn those evil people)
The fear always stops our countrymen from doing the right thing to do and not even seek legal advice, due to fear and lack of knowledge when it comes to rules.
Ugh,just reading your post makes my blood pressure high(nearly reaching the boiling point)
This is the kind of government that we had now...and is getting worst ever.
If your friend is afraid(which i could really understand the situation)then, let's just pray that those evil souls will find some goodness in their hearts(wish there is still left)
God is justice enough...i hope your friend is fine now.

hi kitty. it's been a while since i last saw you here? been busy with something else? or someone else?
i really feel so sad to what had happened to my friend. i feel the need to report it to the police and the media. i am just afraid something worse will happen to him and the family. they know already where they live and so i am afraid the goons will get back to him, once the incident became controversial to the media and the cops.

Hi neildc my friend,
I am concern with your friend niel... I am concern for the entire safety of his family and even you close to him... in that case, maybe the right one it to sue them... but I think that 'man' is so powerful with many men out there who are always stalking at your friends backyard right this moment... maybe the right thing to do now for safety sake of his family is to keep silent... I don't know if I am giving the right answer, this is only what I think...

i had a talk with someone, whom i think knows more, as he is someone in authority and also lives in the same city. i know now, that we have to be silent, for the sake of the whole family.

I'd report it and ask to be put in witness protection if I lived in a place where they had it. Pretty scary situation. My heart goes out to your friend.

i wish they have better options, but even if i help them to decide, i am afraid they will stick to stay silent.

It is an awful thing that has happened to your friend and the visit he received is an interesting one. My first instinct would be to accept the offer and keep quiet but upon refection I decided that is not a resolution I would be comfortable living with. I wonder how safe it would be to accept the offer and then approach the police, report them and ask for protection…It sounds as though these are not people you can mess with…Hard to know how to handle it safely. Sad world isn’t it?

really sad world, paula. whichever he choose, his life and so as his family is now in danger. the only thing i can do to really help them is this, talk about the incident online. we may never know, someone is now following this thread and have this reach to whom it may.

If it wasme that was injured, I'd go to the police and pray they would make a few arrests. I wouldn't bother suing them because it would be a waste of money. I wouldn't take the bribe, I'd let the police handle it. Now, if this happened to a friend, I'd let my friend make the decision; it's his situation and his family. But I'd certainly provide what ever advise/help I could to him.

well, being a friend and a family too, considering that he is the father-in-law of my brother-in-law, it makes us feel so sad about him. whatever happens to them, it feels it also happened to me, to my family...
i already handed him my only help that i can provide, to accompany him to the police and asked assistance and we searched to area. but no one was brave to tell anything at that time... we also accompanied him to the hospital for treatment...
i let him and his daughters decide what will be their final decision.
but of course, what ever happens to him and his family, if ever there is worse happens if that is reported to the higher police authorities or the media, we will really be saddened and affected as they are no just friends, but also family.

hello neildc,
they must be vigilant. they should call the media via ABS-CBN : XXX program and have them exposed, it's either now or never, they will attempt to do this again. don't let it screw them.
Report it to the media because so that they can call the HQ and organize an entrapment operation, they can't fool around if the cops are accompanied by media personel.
