If the government takes over healthcare, does that mean there will be no services on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays? What about furlough days for medical staff? Just a thought......

The Smithsonian museums in Washington, D.C. are open every day of the year, seven days a week, except for Christmas Day. Their staff are federal employees and they work weekends and the other holidays. There are plenty of doctors offices who are already closed on the weekend so I don't see this as being a big issue.

this discussion was meant as humor. I am not saying which way it would go. It was just a thought I had.

i have to say that i think all you guys are being paranoid because we have that type of healthcare here in Canada. sure the wait times are a bit longer for a doctors appointment but if it a holiday or a weekend, you can go to an urgent care centre. it is like an er but is in a seperate location and they see and treat you within two hours.

Cher, I understand that a lot of people in Canada are happy with their health care and I think thats great! The point is, Americans do NOT want it.

Wait until they all become government unionized employees. You think the DMV moves slow.

How can there be holidays with no medical care? Give some people days on, others day off, and switch 'em. People are still going to get sick on "holidays" so having everyone off would be a really lousy idea.

I dont see why it should mean that. It doesn't here. If the surgery is closed we have "walk-in" centres or, in an emergency, the A&E department is open 24/7 365 days of the year . We also have on-call GPs & Community Nurses who do home visits out of hours. NHS patients may wait a bit longer than private patients but the cover is there. Our healthcare staff work shift/rota systems to ensure that care is available.

I am sure they won't get "federal holidays" and weekends off just because they would be federal employees. Of all the things we have to worry about with a government take over of healthcare...this is one is not even on the radar.
