The State of South Carolina, home to Appalachian Trail hiker Governor Mark Sanford, and “You Lie” Joe Wilson wants to keep track of terrorists and subversives residing in the Palmetto state. And in a stroke of bureaucratic Orwellian genius, lawmakers have found a way to monitor terrorist activity. It’s called the “Subversive Activities Registration Act,” and requires that subversives pay a $5.00 filing fee and register with the Secretary of State, before overthrowing the government. Genius, right? The South Carolina blog FitsNews, was right on top of this latest development in a bible-thumping state that has its share of colorful characters... Ok, I have a few comments and questions. Wait a minute, I am still wiping the tears out if my eyes! Is a hunting license less than $5? How many registrations do they get a year? I am so glad it is still free to over throw the government in Colorado! OMG Thank you I enjoyed that IMMENSELY!

Ya ya...laugh it up....(my state is really turning into an embarrassement). Here is a list of licnse and their cost http://www.dnr.sc.gov/licenses/pricingresident.html It looks like cost less to overthrow the state government than it does to get some permits. LOL My question is...how many people actually sign and pay the fee for this. I will check it out and let you know.

I wonder if that's 5 dollars per elected official tag or for the entire bunch....do we have to have them weighed after they are taken? Is there a daily take limit? Do they have to be a certain age? Is there a specific season? So many questions...I wanna make sure I do this right...nice and legal like.

I saw a piece on this a while ago and just laughed to my self. I am glad to be living in a state where over throwing my government is an actual right. "Right of Revolution: Government being instituted for the common benefit, protection, and security, of the whole community, and not for the private interest or emolument of any one man, family, or class of men; therefore, whenever the ends of government are perverted, and public liberty manifestly endangered, and all other means of redress are ineffectual, the people may, and of right ought to reform the old, or establish a new government. The doctrine of nonresistance against arbitrary power, and oppression, is absurd, slavish, and destructive of the good and happiness of mankind. ~New Hampshire State Consitution, Article 10.

On a side note, I would LOVE to see how many have actually applied for the permit.

Maybe Sanford's South American "soul-mate" told him this would be a good way get money to fund his love nest trips as his Official funds have been cut off for hanky panky trips.

Fee is too low. Something smells wrong. My city charges $93 for a permit to replace a hot water heater! Then the inspector doesn't do anything unless you call him and demand he appear to inspect.

This is one of the most hilarious piece of threads I have ever read. The government simply gets better with time. There are so many such fiasco's passed out by governments.Well this will keep us entertained. How many did actually register?

I think they have no idea how a government is overthrown. If that law were made a federal law, nearly every single voter would have to register! Because we ARE going to overthrow this present form of government that refuses to represent the people. Non-violently, God willing. I find that a very funny law!

I think that visit would result in a lot of citations--molotov cocktails could hurt you or someone else and would be replaced by a controlled burn with the fire department as overseers--and of course you would need a permit for that.

bible thumping state? Well I never really looked at it that way...and I live there. Although we have a BIG issue with politicans that suck. "colorful" would be a nice way of discribing them. Besides the two you named...we also have Graham and DeMint...both of which suck. As for the fee...it is stupid...enless they plan on making the Republican party, democratic party, all the lobbyists, special interests and corporations that try to buy our elected officials votes have to pay the fee and sign up..all of those groups are "subversive" in my opinion...then it might actually bring in some much needed cash for the state.

So . . . if you pay your $5 fee you can go on to plan your revolution unmolested, but if you don't you pay a $25,000 fine and/or 10 years in prison? How do they know if you don't register? Is it when you attempt to overthrow the government, or when you succeed?

Yeah, that will work! Who is going to admit to that? Why not require all criminals to register before committing their respective crimes? That will certainly put a stop to illegal activity!

Why would anyone need to register if they overthrown the government. If someone did overthrow the government they get to make the rules and toss it out.
