Do You think that advertisement really works?

Now a days I can see lot of advertisement in television is this advertisement really works ,How they manage to get this money back.The reason why I am asking this question is for example for 50 paise chocalate they are showing costly advertisement in the television ,Will this work .I don't think so .I know very well that every new products must have advertisement .But I can see even for popular products alse they are keep on advertising.For example ,even ebay now advertise television. This really shows the competition in the business markets.
