Do you find yourself counting everything by habit?

When I was younger I would count things wherever we were. It might be tiles on the wall or the amount of patterns in the wallpaper. Ticks of a clock or beats of the music. Sometimes it was useful, people might say how many times have I done that? and I would already know because I was counting it in my head ,for example mum would be knitting and I would count her hand passing the wool over or under or when she started a row,she would change hands and that would get counted too . Its easy to lose count in knitting as it gets repetitive. Often it was annoying because it spoiled things like music or just concentration . I used to watch the defragmenter working on our computer when we had windows 95. I liked to see the blocks hopping about changing colours. Also the download count on a file. Well I don't find myself doing it any more. I can go for days and not do it and if I have anything I need to count now, I count it and then forget about it. Do you count anything automatically? Will you calculate the tiles on the ceiling or walls?

When I was in college I will say that I was quite married to the number five. What I mean is that when I was taking notes for a class I would let myself get a drink every time I had completed five lines of notes or five questions from homework and the such. Now, however, there are not a lot of things that I do to which I am married to numbers. The only place that I really count anything anymore is here on mylot because I like to keep my post count at a multiple of ten.

Oh I do it to 8 if I am jumping rope(what I do when I'm not having a run that day). I count my jumps because I cant see the clock clearly and 120 jumps is 1 minute. But I always find myself thinking in 8's and I have to force myself to count in 10s as it is easier to not lose count.

i also have that kind of habit before and worst is i just used my eyes and mind to count them and so a lot of them notice about it. they though i have problem coz they always saw me staring to something without moving but just my eyes. and so i told them im actually counting. and so my brother who happened to be a nurse, he told me that if do that i should atl east use my hands to point and say it loudly so that when other people saw me doing it they know that i am counting than be look like i was in shocked like i saw something thats why i didnt move or talk.

Haha I think pointing and counting might actually look worse especially if you are somewhere like the doctors waiting room or in school.

Yes it jolly well is tiresome but one day I just stopped doing it. No idea why, maybe other things became more interesting.

I bet you will think about it though next time you are in a room with tiles LOL Think it is 12 tiles across and 7 tiles up so that is...84 tiles..but how many inches is it for 10 inch square tiles...multiplied by 4 for the entire room. Take away the space for the door to fit in... Hehe that's the way it used to go in my head!

I've done it for as long as I can remember and I still do it now, hence why I'm trying to find other people that do this. I wondered what it's all about?! It doesn't bother me too much but I can't figure why I have to do it. Like sometimes I have to count something before I leave the house, or if someone is talking to me I might be counting something and not even listening because I have to count this thing I've seen. It's so weird.
