Do you eat meat every day?

Some people can't imagine a satisfying meal without meat. Others never eat meat, for health or moral reasons. I fall in the middle. I eat meat and enjoy it, but I also enjoy many vegetarian dishes. I go meatless at least one day every week because it's good for my health and good for the environment. I find that vegetarian food can be extremely tasty and satisfying, and in some cases I actually prefer it over a meat dish. For example, if I had a choice between Chicken Parmesan or Eggplant Parmesan, I'd choose the eggplant 10 out of 10 times. So how about you? Do you ever go veggie, or are you an all-out carnivore?

I eat meat almost every day, meat is just as good for you as fruit and veg and we all need a balanced diet which is all the main food groups I don't always eat red meat I might have red meat few days a week but I have fish the most and also eat a lot of chicken. But with any meal I always have an apple or raw veg for example a raw carrot they taste a lot better than a cooked carrot and contain a lot more vitamins and minerals then a cooked one. So yeah I usually eat red or white meat prob 6 out of 7 days but also balance that out with fruit and veg so that I am getting the benefits of the meat and also getting the benefits of fruit and veg.

Sounds like you have a well-thought, balanced diet. I think the problem of a lot of people who love meat is that they tend to ignore vegetables, but it sounds like you're getting your veggies in.

No, I do not eat meat everyday. I don't eat a lot of meat in general. I found in the past I didnt know how to cook it very well. I really do enjoy a lot of vegetarian foods. I love tofu stir fry and black beans are yummy. I actually stopped eating pork, beef, and poultry about a month ago. I find that vegetarian foods are healthier. I generally feel lighter and my digestive sytem works better. I don't have that heavy sinking feeling after a meal. It has also aided me in weight loss. Vegetarian food generally has less calories and fats that are better for you. I learned how to make olive hummous the other day! It was so easy and tasty! Also, most restaurants don't have a lot of vegetarian options. This means I can't eat out as much anymore. Fast food was a big contributor to my weight gain. I still eat fish and seafood products. I need some animal protein in my diet. Plus its really hard to go cold turkey. Especially since I actually like the taste of meat. I decided to stop eating meat so that I could have a lesser carbon footprint. I find Indian's make amasing vegetarian food. A friend of mine invited me to her Indian wedding and we had the most tasty food. I'd really like to learn how to make it.

Most of my animal protein comes from poultry and eggs, though I have actually started eating a small amount of pork recently due to my forays into Chinese cooking. I wish I could eat fish more often, but it's so expensive here in the desert!

I live in Colorado. Completely landlocked and almost no local fish production. Everything is shipped in from other states, and therefore is more expensive due to shipping costs.

Fish is expensive? where are you from? I eat salmon and tuna sandwiches a lot. I also eat a lot of sashimi. Sushi is really inexpensive here.

I hardly ever eat meat and this has been for almost two years now. If I eat anything its chicken maybe once a week. I don't eat the red meat because I know its just not healthy for us. I will eat turkey too. I find eating meatless meals so good for my mind and body and I don't miss it at all.

I think a lot of people are surprised to find that they don't really miss meat when they leave it. I will occasionally get a craving for red meat, but only very rarely.

When I was a meat eater, I remember thinking that I would like to give it up, but I could not imagine not eating it as most of my favourite dishes had meat in them. I thought I would miss it but I do not at all as I gradually evolved with my eating habits until there was no meat left at all.

I do not eat meat at all and see absolutely no reason to. I feel much better now without it than when I ate it and am slimmer too. I know that some people think that you have to eat it to get their iron or protein, but you can get all the protein and iron that your body needs from fruits and vegetables. I do not eat meat or dairy for ethical reasons due to the severe cruelty of the meat and dairy industries and also for health reasons because of the fact that these industries load their products full of nasty chemicals that cause all sorts of diseases. I would rather live a long and healthy life eating foods that are going to benefit me and the world. The meat industry is not a sustainable industry and they cannot keep doing what they are doing as the planet cannot cope with it.

It is true that the meat industry, overall, is horrible. There are some producers that operate sustainably and don't use harmful chemicals in their products, but unfortunately their products end up being more than twice the cost of conventional products. This is a big part of why I've reduced my consumption of meat.

Yeah, you are right. There are some small meat producing companies that are ethical and organic, but they are few and far between and they do cost more. Hoofed animals do still degrade the soil no matter how ethically they are farmed and the fact that the soil is disappearing at a rapid rate is very concerning for the future of food production throughout the world and in particular 3rd world countries.

Hello Thyst! I tried to be a vegetarian a few years back. It was rather painful and I assure you I was doing it right: getting all the nutriments I needed and the right amount of protein but I was sick for the whole 2 yrs and every time Id be with family and couldnt get out of a "normal" meal, Id feel fine. I know why now, I need to eat meat or I have problems with hypoglycemia. My blood sugar drops and I can control it by eating meat. So I do everyday!!

I imagine that many die-hard vegetarians would tell you that you could control your hypoglycemia with vegetable protein sources, but meat is probably much easier, and if your doctor recommends it then it's probably the way to go. I've known other people who followed a good, well-rounded vegetarian diet and still got sick, and then got better when the started eating a small amount of meat again. I wonder if part of it has to do with your ancestry- people in different parts of the world evolved over time with different food sources available, so some people have different nutritional requirements than others.

I think for me, i just like to eat in a balance and porportional way. Because i like both vegetables and meat e.t.c, and also this is for your good health too. i love to eat chicken, fish, prawns, mutton and red meat too (but not too much, because i have heard that it is not good for health if we eat too much). Actually i prefer to eat meat items more than vegetables but again you shoulb have to be in a correct manner too. So i try to eat in a balance diet. good topic...take care

I have honestly never had mutton in my life. I guess that sheep just aren't one of the main production animals in the United States. I can't even find lamb at most of the supermarkets around here.

Awww... thats too bad you never had a mutton in your life. Well mutton is very good for health and very nutritious then most of the meats. It is basically of sheeps, lambs or goats. Here in our country, even if you are very sick the doctor suggest us to eat mutton because it's meat is very energyzing. We prepare it in a very light and healthy way so it gets more delicious and healthy. Roasted mutton and lamb chops are one of my favorite dishes. :)

I don't have any dietary restrictions about meat. Once in a while I enjoy eating grilled or roasted chicken, but that's only when I eat out. At home, I am more comfortable eating vegetables and different kinds of fish, and I prefer it! Fish can be a good source of protein with other nutritious elements too, and there are so many different fish to eat to never get bored with the taste!

I would love to eat more fish, but I don't for two reasons. First, it's rather expensive where I live. Second, 90% of the fish in my local supermarket is farm-raised, meaning that it's been treated with all kinds of pesticides and antibiotics, and I don't feel that it's safe. Sadly, the safest and cheapest type of fish I can get my hands on is canned salmon.

I haven't met very many people who have been vegetarians since childhood. Most people make that choice later in life, but it's great that you grew up with lots of veggies!

I'd prefer meat once a week with meal, but I really don't have idea whether it's good for health to have meat everyday.I think,if all the human race start taking meal with meal everyday then the animal race will move by leaps and bounds to extinction.

Well, since the majority of our meat is raised en-masse by ranchers, I don't think we'll ever run out. But a huge amount of meat consumption does pose other problems for the environment, like the fact that it requires so much water and land.

I prefer to eat veggies and fish rather than eating meat everyday. I enjoy eating veggies more than meat. Meat does not satisfy my craving and I would still look for veggies or soup. Or small bits of meat such as chicken or beef can be mixed with veggies, that would also increase my appetite.

I had a phase a while ago where I just got tired of so much meat, and I craved vegetables and grains. That's when I started being more conscious of what I eat. I can certainly eat a meal without meat and feel completely satisfied, now, and I can tell when I've had too much meat. I just don't feel good.

I am trying my best to be vegetarian but I just can't. I'm doing my best for my kids to to eat vegetables so that they'll grow up eating veggies. Right now at home, we still can't go meatless in a day. When we cook veggies, there should always be meat on it.

When you go meatless, you have to replace it with another protein source. The first vegetarian meal that I ever learned to like was black beans and rice. If the black beans are well-seasoned, you can wrap the beans, rice, some cheese, sour cream, and other toppings up in a tortilla and eat it as a burrito. It is so delicious, you won't miss the meat!

If you eat meat in every meal but you're concerned about the health effects, you could try reducing the portion sizes- you might find that having just a little bit of meat alongside grains and vegetables is just as satisfying as having a huge chunk of meat.

Meat once per day is probably fine, as long as you keep it lean for the most part and control the portion sizes.

i am an all out carnivore lol, well not really coz i don't eat meat each day but i enjoy it very much and would mostly prefer having it over something vegetarian, one of the reason when ever we go out to eat it has to be meat! .. but yeah like i said not everyday, but i guess around three to four times in a week or so, vegetarian food is also good for health but having meat at times just makes the diet perfect, their is a deficiency in a certain vitamin in people who eat only vegetarian but anyways it's quite minor and not really a necessity, good day, great discussion.

It is true that vegetarians can have vitamin deficiencies, but with careful planning it is possible to get all the vitamins and nutrients you need from a vegetarian diet. For me, however, that would just be too much work! Plus there are some non-vegetarian products that I just can't imagine living without, like cheese.

Very true. Meat is not necessary for our health, but vegetables are. That's why people who go on low carb diets and eat more meat than grains and vegetables end up having health problems, even though they might lose weight at first.

I love meat but I try to control on the amount of it. Say instead of 4 pieces i go for two. Then i try to avoid fatty meat. People say meat is very unhealthy but i have seen many people who have feasted on it for their entire life and are still healthy in their old age.

Meat is only unhealthy if you overdo it, and here in America almost everyone overdoes it. Most people think that a 10 oz. steak or a double burger is a serving of meat, when in reality one serving is only the size of a deck of cards. I keep my portion sizes small, and I feel healthier than I did when I was eating too much meat.

Meat is very delicious,I eat meat every day. For breakfast I allways drink milk and eat egg.Although I know to eat two of them is good for us. For lunch I eat rice and meat, but I just eat lean. For dinner I eat a little of meat, and a lot of vegetables. I think it is good for me to keep in good shape

It's true! The price of meat has gone up so much that it's hard to afford. I only buy meat that's on discount, and I rarely get to eat beef because the price of it is so high. Most of the time I eat tofu because I like it, but sometimes I eat it because it's cheaper than meat.
