Is there world really ending in 2012?

United States

Well, I never ever believe when I hear the world is ending or blah blah. It was like the same thing when Y2k was suppose to happen. But lately it seems there is events happening that normally wouldn't. For example, the big earthquake in Haiti I didn't even know earthquakes hit over there. And just recently the earthquake in Chile. Someone was saying the earthquake and Chile cut off some seconds of the Earth's lifespan or something. So do you have any opinions on it? Would you like to know if the world was coming to an end or what would you do? Happy Mylotting!

I used to have fun about the 2012 predictions because I believe that it wont happen. There are so many predictions about the world end but yet nothing happens. But I noticed that the calamities like earthquake usually happens which is very unusual. Since the announcement of the 2012 predictions, the tragedies are keep on coming to us. Now, I am just hanging on with my faith with god. If it is his will, we dont have any choice but to accept it. But I am still praying that god will give us a chance.

My mom had mentioned that a lot of people also thought the world was going to end at the end of the millenium in 2000 and there was a panic at the time about credit cards not working and stuff like that at the restaurant that i worked at the time that all that was going on, but we are all still here. I refuse to believe that the world is all of sudden going to stop on December 21, 2012 and just because they made a movie about it doesn't mean it is going to happen they make disaster movies all the time that never take place. I think there are just a lot of people who want to believe the worst, but i refuse to be one of them and will live my life the same as i always have with no fear of a day off into the future as i do not believe that mankind has a pre-determined fate that we should all fear this day. Do what you have always done and do not believe everything you hear.

It might be really unlucky for us if the world were to come to an end such quickly, there are a lot of theories though which have been fueled by a few groups of people who are paranoid . The chances of such a thing happening although do exist but are very slim, also if the earth were to end in a few years i guess we would have started feeling it, If its a prophecy i cant help it but will have survive till 2012 to know if its true or not.

Hello flirty! i think the world is not ending... it is we 'people' who will end. Everything will just continue to evolve in their place but human has a lasting and ending life... Many times i have heard about the ending of the world but until now the sun continue to rise and set..All we have to do is to have faith in God and keep moving on...

Nobody knows, not even the angels in the sky. The only hint was of the signs of earthquakes which have been happening recently and it's said to happen in two years already?

the earthquake is a completely disaster. which recently happened in haiti and chile. there were a large number of people suffered from it. i hope all of people safe. as for me, i don;t think 2012 is the last day of world. firstly, there are many scientific envidence which can prove this prediction is totally wrong. secondly, with the high development of technology, it is nothing impossible for human being to deal with all thing.no one conceived of traveling to the moon 100 ago, but we have done now.last but not the least, what we should do now is protect our own earth, beacause we just have on earth, we should reduce the waste pouring to the enviroment and create a more green place for ourself.

I like to recycle and hope by going green it will keep the earth longer. I also do hear that scientist say that the world will not in end in 2012 but where does it come from? I mean they make movies and have all this talk about it yet no one can prove it. Technology is something that is growing and the world should get better not worst!

You know what... I am 27 and during these years, I heard it thrice that world was going to end. Every time, it proved to be mass hysteria or a stupid thing... I wonder, how does anyone believe that the end of the world is predictable!?! It is a ridiculous idea... Do you know how it was created? We've only theories for that, because we were not there when it was CREATED... How can someone of us, know the END? I tell you plainly, people make such announcements only for publicity, which is another ridiculous thing. But people do cash from such fears. It is our duty, as a human, to spread awareness and make people know that when the end comes, we'll not be informed in advance by an engraved invitation. It will simply come and will be gone- take us with it! LOL... Well.. I am not sadistic neither sarcastic.. But that is how I see it!

Hiii Flirtykumquat... Strange things keep happening in the world. Without such things, world would such a boring thing itself LOL... Let us look at it the other way! Earthquakes used to take place in the past, they have been there even before humans came here. Or strange things like a fish with multiple eyes (as you wrote!). I have heard of a man getting pregnant too... Such strange things would happen in the past too. We have got to remember that 'nature' is a system. Something goes wrong at some point of time (that happens in every system) and hence, we experience strange happenings... Such things would occur in the past too... But they wouldn't get publicity! Why? Because the mode of communication wasn't far advanced in those days. Today we've internet and phones etc. Especially the internet has become the speedy medium to deliver such news all over the world within seconds.. That is why, we hear of strange happenings more often than the past. It is simply the gift by the technological advance that we've made...

I feel the same way you do. It does sounds ridiculous but I don't think it is a bad thing to listen to what people say and their opinion. It just seems like earthquakes are happening more and last night I actually heard something about a fish or something with multiple eyes? So I am just going to keep living my life the way I have been and hope for the best!

So what is unusual about earthquakes in earthquake prone areas? Why would you say these are events that do not normaly happen? they do all the time. the chile eartquake while indeed big, certainly isn't the biggest in the last 50 years, or even in the last 10 for that matter. It's just earth doing what earth does. As for "Someone was saying the earthquake and Chile cut off some seconds of the Earth's lifespan or something". Let me explain this a bit for you. It shortened the leangth of our measured day by about .26 milliseconds. the displacement of the area of crust along the fault that was pushed down, actualy shrank the overall crust by tiny fractions. We aren't really spinning "faster", we're just a hair smaller. this happened with the Sumatra quake in 2004 as well, more so actually. I think that shortened our day by almost 3 milliseconds. Did you also know the recent chile earthquake tilted the earths axis by 3 inches? You won't really notice it actually with out instruments to measure it but it happened. No harm to be done, it's bairly a microsopic mpvement in astronomical proaportions. No, no end of the world in 2012. The Mayan calender doesn'e end or predict anything. Nostadamus didn't say anything about 2012. The disaster scenarios being perported are garbage psudeo science. If there was no chance of surviving it, I don't think I would want to know about it though.

Flirty....All it is actually going to effect the length of our day rather than earths life span. I think a millisecond is something like one thousanth of second. SO over time we will just eventually have to recalibrate our gps satelites and our time pieces. Seeker ...They are certainly something to be concerned with if you live in a geologicly active area. But i don't think it means much in terms of a global threat.

I dont know X Im a little concerned about all these earthquakes but I dont believe a 2012 scenario could happen. I believe that the earth despite what we would try to do to it will not be destoyed but I still believe that for humans to live the best possible existence we must live in harmony with nature and have a balance and balance all these pollutants.

Well I am not familiar with earthquakes and when I think about them I think about California and on that end.I live in Florida so that really bothers me knowing that an earthquake could happen so near. As far as the earth's lifespan I am not sure how that works and how much .26 milliseconds actually. What if the lifespan is only at a couple of years from now no one knows.

Hi Flirtykumquat, The end of the world for each of us will be when we die.Every generation it seems, believes the world will end in their lifetime and a lot of people make big bucks writing about it. There have always been earthquakes and other disasters, it's just that we hear so much more about it now.I think that there are a lot of changes coming in the next few years and this may have been what the Mayans were talking about. Blessings.

"In the universal context the 6 cm displacement not a ignorable matter." Lol1...Nah. Actually in terms of astronomy and the universe, 6 cm is pretty much non existant, it's negligable. Think about it and the sizes of things and distances out there.

I don't think it would end as people had expected on that year; but one thing for sure it would end. It can end earlier or later. Let's face the fact that this world is as imperfect as all of us which mean it has its final destruction. The Important thing is at least we are prepared to face our maker one day.

Final destruction as in the Bible's reference Armaggedon? But there is no telling when it will happen, but who knows!

I just saw the 2012 movie last night, so I thought I should have a good opinion on this. My opinion is... 'a not so great movie'. Some of the acting was really cheesy. And and as for the world really ending, well bring it on! If the earthquakes don't kill me quickly, then I have a few months still to get my soul ready to wherever the after life is going to be. And if not, then hopefully I could be part of the group that see the sunlight and fresh air on day 27 of year 0001!

Well, to be honest...I am 50/50 on that matter. Sometimes I believe that it will end in 2012, but at other times, not so much. All the researchers will say that "all signs point to yes". But as for me, I think that it might. There really is no way of telling until it comes. Another thing...there are a few different dates in 2012 that is believed to be the end of the world, one is in May, the other in December. Another reason why I think that it may not happen, if everyone agreed on the same date, then it would be a bit more believable. I guess it really does depend on what a persons point of view is.

Recent tragedies do make me really sad, and they are inevitable, but I don't think the world is ending in 2012 at all. I do pray always that things will be safe and peaceful over here, in my own country and that there will be no natural disasters, but you never know with these things. My heart really goes out to all victims' families and all. So my thought is 2012 is not going to be the end of the world at all..

I think that there's a lot of talk about this Mayan calenda and how it predicts the end of the world come December 21st 2012. I think of all predictions, the Mayan Calander has been the most accurate and has predicted many events that have come true. So, I think some people are really treating this prediction as quite serious, something not to be laughed or joked about. However, when I think about this date I'm pretty sure I will be getting on with my normal routine on that date! We will arrive at the next day, 22nd December 2012 and everyone will be preparing for the festive period. Still, it's an interesting idea and I guess there's a lot of excitment involved. Will the world really end on this date? I'm very sceptical myself personally although you never know! Andrew

No one knows "even the wise man on this world" the end of the world. God only knows when he need to take the final judgment for each one of us. The coming of God will be unexpected to everyone. Let's practice being good and live in accordance to his rule :). God knows everything :) just trust God always :) happy mylotting :)

Me too, I never ever believe of it. No one can predict when the end day come, so there's no need to believe it, no one can prove or tell us. I was so sad when I heard the same thing when I was small, but now I overcome those fears as there's no reason I should trust the prediction.

For this theme people are discuss very often in Mylot. I can only say the world end don't will on 2012, but it will be after a few years. In my country is living very good prophet, and he is said that world end not be so soon. He too is said that 2012, 2013 years will be very hard. Will have many earthquake's, volcano s, floods, storms etc. I feel that world end be on 2036, i can't say why, I just feel it. I hope that I'm wrong.
