hey there...
i would like to hear what's your opinion.
imagine yourself as a musician if you are not, then what do you prefer, creating good music as you like and pays a great reputation for your work, or creating an average music that follows the market and pays a good income or money ? and dont mind to share why would you choose one to another.

I earn online for a living. I cannot achieve this without a good online reputation. so for me...its Reputation in order to have a good income.

Then you wouldn't have a good reputation in the music world...and you wouldn't have a good income either.
But, you would be true to yourself :)

good analogy...but in music sometimes when you only create a music of your own, most of the market maybe would not have the same opinion, then you wont get a good income.

always reputation is followed by money but vice versa is not true... money always cant bring money... though people dont sell their reputation for the sake of money...at the same time money is most important for living..... when you are not in a situation to meet your basic needs its better to settle and stand up rather than trying for name..

There is a certain argument to be make that one cannot exist without the other. Both are equally important elements in success. So, I would have to say that a combination is important. A good reputation is nice, but at the same time, reputation does not pay the bills? There needs to be a certain amount of money being made in any industry, with the music industry being no exception.
On the other hand, one may argue with without a good reputation, it is kind of hard to retrieve a good income. People do not generally buy the CDs or support people that they do not really like. Therefore a poor reputation will not receive a good income for the most part. Will people make some money? Yes they may, but without the good reputation, there is little chance to make good enough money.
So in the end, I think I would say good reputation would be most important because it leads to making good money when everything comes down to it. So money is important but its not everything. Without a good reputation, you cannot even get that and in the music industry, the love for it should be the driving force besides the money.

"...the love of it should be the driving force besides the money..."
i love this part.. good point, but just sometimes people may not realize that to support their "idol" they should buy their original cd's, original merch or stuff..

No compromise at the cost of quality.Success comes to them along with money who work for excellence and not for petty issues like a healthy income. For example,A.R Rehman never composed an music that has not given his popularity.Behind each work there was tremendous effort of all his musicians. They all strive to make a remarkable performance. They wanted people to remember the music. It's an honest effort to art.

i agree with you, but this the point, when we creates a good quality music but doesnt match the taste of the market then our money won't come, but maybe our reputation as a good musician is credited

I think that for the most part, the good reputation comes first and then the income. You need to market yourself and your music and everything else follows. You can't make money if no one hears you. I would choose the reputation because in that case you can only grow and get the benefits that come with it. Are you a musician?

i'm not a real musician if you say a musician is someone who's spent most of his/her time working on music industry or music department. i'm kind of someone who's love to play some sound around some stage, did a performance a two, but doesnt really rely my income from that. i have daily job that got nothing to do with music.
