A couple of weeks ago I started watching a show called Hell’s Kitchen. For those of you have never seen it, it’s kind of a reality show where wanna-be chefs compete for the number one position. The prizes are an obscene amount of money and a chefs position in a top restaurant. Sounds fun, right? It’s not all that fun though. The contestants have to go through a series of tests where the winners get rewards and the losers get punished. Tempers flare and frustrations run high. To top it all off the host, Gordon Ramsey (a world known chef) can be a total jack*ss at times. He will kick things, call ppl names and throw things. I guess to the winner it’s all worth it but I don’t think I could ever go on the show. I have a low threshold of stress and the host would have me in tears in seconds. Could you ever go on the show? Do you think the host is outrageous or do you like him? Do you think the prizes are worth the trouble? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

twoey68 I can't believe that you are just meeting Chef Ramsey. I have been watching him for years and really like his shows. Yes, he is a bit extreme at times and very verbal with the 'f' word. I think some of that is for TV, but most is probably just the way he is. I would 'pay' to intern with him. I think that all Chefs could learn a lot from him. I am a culinary veteran of over 28 years and still learn everyday. I have worked with 'old school' Chef's when I first started that were just as nasty in the kitchen. I have had many things thrown at me and even had one big, Austrian Chef who would hit us on the back of the head if we weren't doing things right. Even after all the abuse, those are the Chefs that I learned the most from. I personally am not at all like Chef Ramsey on TV. You gotta admit, it does make for some good TV! the ak man

Agreed! It is addictive t.v. I've worked with some vicious chefs in my time. I learned a lot, but I don't employ those tactics myself. Not that I haven't had the occasional, "come to Jesus" conversation in a walk-in with a line cook not living up to his or her potential. If you aren't restaurant people you probably don't really comprehend the pressure you're put under in a high volume situation. It's an adrenaline rush. A well executed shift is a thing of beauty. There may be harsh words, and even tears sometimes (not mine), but at the end of the day we all go out, have a drink, and do it again tomorrow. It's a family affair.

Thank you Bat for being able to relate. I was not sure if anyone was going to chime in and know what I was talking about. I agree, unless you are a restaurant person you really wouldn't understand the level at which we work sometimes. I certainly enjoy being at the higher end of the food chain though but I assure you it was earned in sweat and blood. At the end of the day, it is usually the tough shifts or events I remember and appreciate because of the feeling of satisfaction I guess with just making it through. Cheers! the ak man

I like the Gordon Ramsey Show. Could I do it, NO..I could not. I'm too sensitive and he would upset me. Is it worth it? For the ones that go there they are chefs, or they want to be. It is a priviledge to get to work with him and learn things from him. Chef Ramsey has to see how much pressure they can handle. If they can do the job and do it right to his standards. It's his reputation on the line when the winner and he start working together. The winner gets a chefs job with Gordon and will make good money.

During my visit to the US last year, I also watched this reality show... I can never think of participating in this show for two reasons; first of all I am a very poor cook and secondly it needs real guts to participate in such shows which I don't have till far far away. Happy mylotting!

I have watched this show many times and I would be exactly like you "crying." I could not take being yelled at and treated without respect. He is so mean and nasty. He can't go through a show without cursing. I honestly don't know how the contestants deal with him. I definitely admire the last few who are still standing at the end.

I love to watch Hell's Kitchen, but I'll tell you what, there is no way in this world that I could ever be a contestant on that show. The reason is that I don't perform well under stress, so I know that he would break me in the first day that I was there. I do always like to see how the chefs that have the opportunity to remain on the show for an extended period of time grow so much during the time that they are there and I know that the winner is really a lucky person.

I like Gordon Ramsay. Have you seen his other shows? If you haven't, you should look into them. As much as he is a hard butt he is the nicest, most helpful guy out there who is 100% dedicated to his family.

I have seen this show many times and love the show but as you, I would not ever want to be on this show. Even if I was a good cook, I would not be able to deal with his yelling and cussing people out. He can be downright rude with his comments and has to realize these cooks are not as experienced with food cooking as he might be. I get a good laugh too with some of the things the contestants do on the show. I would not be handle that stress either. You definitely have to have patience and confidence and experience to be on the show. Have you seen Kitchen Nightmares, also starring Gordon Ramsey? It is similar but he goes around and reviews various restaurants and helps them to provide better food and create a better atmosphere.

I do like Gordon Ramsey however, I would never go on his show for any talent because although he's good at what he does, he is a bully and a loud mouth not to mention, cusses like a wet sailor. I couldn't put up with someone yelling in my face and calling me names. He'd get the sh!t slapped out of him! I wouldn't put up with that and neither should any of the contestants. To each his own thing, I guess but if it were me, I'd have to put down the law first before joining and that would be to treat me with respect and dignity or he can go to hell!

The shows ok and i think the public viewing of Gordon Ramsey is milding. but needless to say Gordon Ramsey is a bighead kitchen bully. I believe he knows his talent and is very good chef and for some people instructor, but i think it is insulting to the modern world to have his practices so publically known and almost renowned for the way he treats people is disgusting and nobody so horrible should have their behavour condoned

I am one of the seemingly few that do not enjoy "reality" type tv shows. I don't like this show particularly. Any show where they are nasty to "entertain" people, bothers me. I do not like them. Sorry, just can't get into it. I would be in a knock-down drag-out fight with the guy with the first nasty thing out of his mouth and then mine back at him! :-(

I've only seen the show a few times, and I've seen him when he's throwing things around and calling ppl names, I don't think I could take it myself, I'd be fighting back..lol. I think he's outrageous, and I don't normally watch the show, and I don't think I would ever go on it.

My high school band director was exactly like Gordon Ramsay, so I'm used to all of that. It's not Ramsay's antics that would keep me off of the show, though. It's the simple fact that I hate being in the food industry. Been there, done that, not doing it again. lol

I have watched this show and agree to what you are saying about the host but then it is reality TV and if he does not act like that then how will he make money. As far as I am concerned no amount of money can make me participate in such shows coz not will I be in tears but maybe I may do something quite dreadful as I can't control my temper. So it is a complete NO NO for me.

I love that show. That is the only reality show I watch. But I wait for the season to get over, then watch the whole thing. I think I may be able to hold my own on there but wouldnt put myself through it. You recognize that you couldnt, I wish some of these other people would too. But I guess thats what makes the show entertaining.

I have watched that show many many times...I enjoy it when i do watch it....I was amazed at how they get in those awful fights and they end up gossiping and putting down the other chefs....Im sure that is just how it is too..The last show i saw , one of the girls did something good and got rewarded by getting a day off to shop, man the others was so darn jealous of that...Its a nice show & yes i have enjoyed watching it......Sounds like those chefs are under a lot of pressure though....

the guy who runs it is a little too high strung for my liking! i dont know if the prize money is worth it the way he brow beats his contestants. its a tv show, not the army!

I watched the first 2 episodes, maybe three, but have stopped. Now, Ramsey is just cussing and yelling FAR to much and the constant bleeping of the cuss words and phrases is just to annoying, and now the chefs are cussing and yelling..not at Ramsey but at each other and in their individual interviews! I didn't tune in to hear a near constant beep tone! And last few that I started and then stopped.. the chefs that are chosen are so un-qualified and unskilled to be a chef. Just cause you cook for your family doesn't mean you could handle a huge resturant! Those are the ones that need to go to FoodNetwork "Next Food Network Star" and try for their own show. And I'm not putting anyone down that is on there, but you have to have more qualication and experience than the chefs have to be able to handle all that. So between the cussing and the totally unqualified chefs...They make the most infantile errors, I guess no wonder Ramsey is cussing so much more lately! So I don't tune in anymore.

Gordon Ramsay has been around for a long time and is well known for his rudeness and use of foul language. Personally I can’t stand him, not just because of the way he treats people but how he comes across outside of the show. He’s being involved in an adultery scandal too a while ago, not that it has anything to do with the show. I didn’t mind Hell’s Kitchen although I don’t see why these people allow themselves to be treated like that! Why anyone puts themselves through reality television, is beyond me!
