I never watch it. As the years go by I am less and less interesting in awards shows because they have no influence on everyday life and I don't care a whit about actors. I do look at the results the next day if I run across them and am usually amazed at the winners--usually a movie or actor wins that I don't think deserves it, there were so many better performances, better movies. Some of the best movies, in my opinion, never get nominated. I think it's all pre-arranged anyway.

What makes you believe that oscar awards are all pre arranged?
It's interesting to hear your story!

I am asking and putting this into a debate since I was listening to a radio discussion about this on BBC. I have the impression that its not always the best actor, actress or movie that wins but one that has created much hype about it.

I don't have any real reasons to believe it. It's just that some years the movies and actors that win are just so inferior to the other offerings that I can hardly believe it! Sometimes I think they choose winners depending on how much the movie made. Then again, my tastes are different from most people so what I think is worthy of an award isn't usually a belief held by most other people and certainly not the judges.

I'm not watching the Oscars, because I'm sick of the wrong movies winning. That happened a lot lately - giving out awards for other reasons than the quality of the movies or the acting performance. It's a small guild that decides who gets the awards, and I prefer watching the movies and judging for myself.
I can't really appreciate who is better, because I haven't seen all the nominated movies or roles.
I'm still waiting for a decent dvdrip of Avatar to appear, because I refuse to go see it 3D. It's like people are 3d-crazy. I want to see it as a movie, not as a performance. This 3D-craze will win Avatar the award.
I've seen Morgan Freeman in Invictus, but not the other nominees. His performance as Nelson Mandela was fabulous.
I know nothing about the nominees for best actress.

Exactly. I mean, I'm not saying it's not a good film or anything, I really want to see it when it comes out in the appropriate format, but it's like they've all gone mad...
By the way, have you seen Looking for Eric? I'm watching it right now. Loving it.

I have not watched that film. What is your judgement of "Looking for Eric"?
How do you rate it?

I can agree with you. I have not seen them all so I can't say who is the best.
I have the same feeling regarding Avatar. There is so much hype about it.

There are a few more nominees for best picture than the ones you listed, but I don't think it will matter. I know they thought having ten Best Picture nominees would be interesting, but I think Avatar will run away with it. I don't want Avatar to win it, but I think it will. I also hope Sandra Bullock wins for The Blind Side, but I think Meryl Streep will win. Most of all, I hope Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker) will beat her ex when it comes to Best Director. That would be a huge accomplishment considering she is female, and Hollywood has been stingy with awards like these when it comes to female film makers.
I will probably watch the opening monologue, the first couple awards given out, and that will be it. I may check in at the end of the show to see who wins best picture, but I'll probably just check out the winners online.

Hi AmbiePam, I do share your views regarding Avatar. It will be interesting to see how the awards are going to be won this year. Unfortunately the show starts in the early hours of the morning when I am fast asleep. So I will read the results on the internet early morning. thanks for your feedback.

Nah, it's gonna be a boring show to me!! I wonder why they even bother to show it live, and it's nothing to boast about!! haha =D It's either the favourites win, or the dark horses.. So far, there isn't a year, whereby it's something in the middle, which wins.. haha =D
Besides, there are too many good movies for the past year, and it's not fair to judge the movie based on awards too.. hehe

I do believe that awards are subjective.
Every type of competition is subjective.
Sometimes its hard to choose between two excellent movies.

I do not usually watch the award shows since I am usually at work or doing something else or watching something else or I simply forget to watch the awards which they are usually the same anyway, and if I had to bet for each one I would say the oscar would go to The Blind Side,George Clooney, and Sandra Bullock but I am probably wrong but those are who I want to win,and who I would hope to win,and I have probably missed the awards so if I have and you know who won,i would greatly appreciate you sharing them with me.

Thank you my friend for posting the results and I am surprised by some of the winners but I know everyone one who won deserved it because they worked hard and even if my picks did not win,I am happy for those who did win,and can not wait until the next awards.

I don't usually bet on who will win. I always see the show and record who won. I also pick whom i would give the oscar to. Not who Will win , just My picks. I have been correct more times than not. And I was with the Academy when they picked against what the critics thought. The year Juliet won for The English Patient she was my pick. The year the Academy picked Gandhi instead of E.T. it was my pick too.
This year I Want Colin or Jeff Bridges as best actor.Sandra Bullock as best actress,Abd Either The Blind Side or the Hurt Locker as best picture.

The English Patient was a really good movie and the actress had an immaculate interpretation. I will try to read the news tomorrow. The show would be too late for me to watch. I hope that the best ones win. Takes for sharing.
