Man is generally unhappy with the present.he thinks of the past and dreams of the future for mirth.future is uncertain.it is scaled book unopened and unstudied by anybody so far.so it is natural that man should think of the past for happiness.in every age,we lack something which retards our happiness and there is something which adds to it.so happiness is a relative term.in the begining, man lived like a wild beast.he knew no worries.he was happy but it was the happiness of ignorence.
with the change of time today we have fastest and most comfortable means of travelling.we have many means of amusement.we appear much better than our forefather.but we are not really happy.
in short,in many ways we are happier than our forefathers, but in some ways, our forefather were happier than we people are.happiness is a state of mind.unless we are morelly and spiritually uplifted,we cannot be really happy.

You are so right. I have settled with the fact that God isn't really concerned with our happiness on earth so much so I guess we shouldn't be either. He doesn't want us to worry, and to me that's good enough. The more "stuff" we have, the more problems we have ultimately... And he's going to provide us with everything we need if we just have faith..so we shouldn't worry.. I know I'm getting a little off of the subject maybe but I agree with you.. unless we are spiritually uplifted, we can not be happy and the happiness will not last.
