Do we you think we still need a prophet today?

In Amos 3:7, it says there and I quote "Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets". Revelations are definitely very important in our days today. As it says in the scriptures that God reveals His secrets to His prophets which means that without a prophet then we would not be guided to do the things that we are suppose to do in this life. We need a prophet who has the authority from God and not just scholars or experts who claim to be a prophet. How will we know if that person is a prophet of God? Why do you think we still need a prophet these days? Is it even possible to have a living prophet?

hi friend i had read your discussion about the need of prophet it is very intresting and i like this question because everyone is in the search of real god and evil is making their path tuff. i want to tell you about this but first please i want to give one example" if there is one teacher and he teaches his student all the things or manners which the teacher have. but how can that student test himself that from which level i had been upgraded. for testin this he have to perform this himself only" from this example please read this also:
in my religion islam the god had send 1,24,000 prophet to teaches us and our last prophet S.A.W.S. had told us that i had teached you a complete islam and you have to follow this and no other prophet will come after me and those who are claiming this they are not a real prophet and it is your responsiblity(all muslims) to save our islam from that people.
now answer of your question that how can we know that whether the person is claiming is a true prophet or not?
answer: the messenger who are coming first is giving the signs for identifying the next messenger and our last messenger had told that now i am a last messenger and now no prophet is coming for you and it is your responsiblity to follow this path and save our islam for bad people or evil.

hello friend,
i had read your comment and i respect your feelings but you are wrong here god does'nt send the prophet to indicate that god loves us.
the proof that god loves us the rising of sun, the rising of moon, we are getting food from land of our god continously on time. this is indication of god loves us.
in my religion god told us that i will protect the earth from all the destruction even only one man is remebering me. from this sentence you can get how much god loves us that they will protect complete earth from all danger even there is only one man who is remembering that god.
you are telling that god send prophet to showing us that god loves us. but no my friend god send their prophets to giving us the message that you all are created my me and you are on earth from doing my prayers and aslo for protecting the human kind from false thing in front of god.
god had sended total 1,24,000 messengers to give all the real knowledge and also teaching complete human kind the existance of real god and good manners.
when all the messenger teached them complete things our last prophet S.A.W.S. had told that now this is completion of islam and now there will be no messenger coming on earth to tell you this things and if anybody claim that he is the prohet then he is a fraud and it is your responsiblity(complete muslims) that you will protect all human kind from this fraud and you will send this message to complete human kind so as they will be on right path.

i think that prophets are sign of God's love to us. Prophets are there to teach us that we need to follow God's commandments.
Every time the people of old gets so wicked God calls a prophet to remind them to be good again. That is one way of God showing his love.
If he does not call a prophet today, that means he doesn't love us anymore.
But since he does not change, he will always love us, that's why he will always have a prophet to remind us to be good and teach us of heavenly things.

I agree with you. But I think that would be hard, especially in these times when all the evil is around. And it is hard to determine a prophet's truthfulness. God said we have to be aware of false prophets.
"And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive
many... For there shall arise false Christs, and false
prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect."

We can always pray for it. God said if we lack wisdom then we pray to him and ask. It is sometimes frustrating to know that there would be a lot of false prophets in our days but I think God also has a purpose why this happens because we will not be able to exercise faith in God if it would be easy for us to find His servants. One thing is for sure though, a man of God will not try to put other religions down just to convert people that they are the true church. A man of God will always be humble and kind. Someone like Jesus, someone to is not fond of contentions. I hope one day you will find what you are looking for.

Revelations revealed by God to an individual, is a revelation applicable only for that person. How about the revelation that we need as mankind? Of course, there has to be something common about it. Let's say some example the situation that Noah had with the people during his day, let's say for example that I am Noah and I was told by God about a flood and I would tell people now that there's going to be a flood and we need to prepare, we need to move out and make a ship for us to be saved, do you think you're going to believe me? Or other people are going to believe me? Or if God revealed something like this to you are you going to tell people or just keep it to yourself?
There is a need for a prophet because the prophet knows the way. The only problem we have now is how to know if the person is really a prophet of God.

"For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. "
Yes, i am willing to give up everything for my own salvation if the Lord requires it. That is what you call sacrifice and obedience to His will.
Also i do not depend on my own knowledge because i know my knowledge is nothing compared to God. I don't believe we will be saved by our knowledge too. I know we will be saved by the fruits of our knowledge. That is by applying things we know to be right and helpful to others.

Let us consider the time element in the Bible. In old testament, Gods messengers we're called phrophets, but in the new testament, christian era, it is called apostle. For me, in our time, phrophets or apostles are needed no more, because Gods words are all written in the Bible. Even Apostle Paul cited in 1Cor 4:9 "For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all," when it says last, meaning nothing to follows. So if you find a man at these days claiming that he is a phrophet or apostle, he is a false phrophet. A phrophet that we have to look for is Jesus Christ. It is clear in Heb 1:2 written "but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world"

What if God has a prophet today, will you still stand by your belief or by your own knowledge that they are false prophets? what if your wrong then?
In the scriptures we read, Matthew 7:20, "by their fruits ye shall know them."
I know we need a living prophet in our times today, God loves people in our time as well as people in times of old. If he called prophets in Old testament times, why not now?
The bible does not have all of God's words. If the bible was complete, I'll tell you, we will only have one religion, all the people will have one faith.
In the Old testament times, God did not call prophets only in one place, he can call prophets wherever he wants. Remember He is God of all the world, not just one place. Who knows, those prophets not mentioned in the Bible also wrote their scriptures as commanded by them of God. Will you not accept them because you stand by your belief the bible is complete?

As far as I know that Jesus is the last prophet that God sent us to save the world. Th bible is the living word of God and our guide in exploring the right path going to holiness. According to John 14:6 "Jesus said to Him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.". We don't need a prophet today because if we know Jesus, we will know what is our purpose here.

I think we still need prophets today because they are the mouthpiece of God.
Prophets are the only one who can receive direct revelation from God.
These last days there are a lot of false prophets, but i would like to remind you that the scriptures tells us that " by their fruits ye shall know them" ...
Let us always ponder and pray about things we read and hear about these men. And by the power of the Holy Spirit, we will know all things if these men are false or not. Let us not rely on our own knowledge.

hi friend ihad read your comment but i want to tell you that you are right to some extent. please first read my above comment and than please think on all the statement. i want to tell you that yes you are right that we need prophet in this age as we cannot judge the true things about our religion as all peoples added wrong things in that. but in my religion our last prophet S.A.W.S. had told us that i am last prophet in this world now there will be no prophet after me and now our islam is completed now. if there is addition of new things in this then it is going to hell fixed.

We have reason, we have logic, if you are correct God gave these tools to us all to use. I for one have no need for prophets, I will just uses what God gave me. Prophets are for those that do not want to think for them selves. They would rather have someone else tell them what to do or think.

I say we definitely need prophets. We do have reason and we could be logical but how come we still cant live a righteous life? Maybe the reason for that is we lack guidance. And God is the same God yesterday, today, and forever. So if He sent prophets for the people before, its not impossible that He is going to send a prophet in our days too. Dont you think?

I guess in our world today, things are very different than during those biblical times. During those times, prophet only is located on one place and we can say that he can spread his word to a very localized number of people. But today we are all spread across the world and spreading what God is wanting to pass on to us could really be confusing even the net is available to spread the word. You could not easily decipher which is telling the truth from those that tell lies. Everyone could simply say they are messenger of God but in fact they are not.

Hi p3ks626, I know that the Mormon church has a prophet and often quote the very scripture that you have here to show that we must have such a person. We have logic and reason and I believe that most of us, if we have not been indoctrinated and held captive by a particular belief, can read scripture ourselves and tell what is true and what is false. It doesn't take a genius and certainly not a prophet in the Biblical sense. Blessings.

Definitely. As a christian, we believe that in the church there are what we call as the five-fold ministries or offices; their main purpose is to build the body or the church. One of the offices is the office of the prophet. They are there to listen to God for the direction and revelation of a particular issue or again what God wants his body to do and what direction to go.

indeed my friend, we do need prophets. the preachers/ministers/priests are the modern day prophets. we too are prophets to our neighbors, in our community and where ever we are. if we just "walk our talk" the goodness of us, then we are considered as prophets too. if other people find us to be worthy of emulating then we are considered the living prophets in this modern days. happy mylotting and be a prophet to everyone you meet.

Its really hard to say because if we make a prophet out of an individual that will be something but if we, individually will think that we can do something to everyone that will be great. There are challenges for us to think whether that person is a prophet or not or if that expert is one of the prophet so what I mean what are the basis of us knowing the fact and basis of being so. I guess all we need to do is to start within, share the words and communicate with God by praying. Like God and his great plan that He is the only one what is right for all of us. God bless

I totally agree with you that we really have to start within and pray to God, ask sincerely about His prophets. There are a lot of people who are claiming to be prophets these days but they could be the false ones also a tactic by the adversary to confuse people. But one thing is for sure to know whether a person is a prophet or not, he should not be that kind of person who would put other religion down, and find faults with other religion just to prove to people that other religions are false ones. We will know if a man is a man of God, if we ask it of God. God will be the only one to give the answer to our prayers. He might have some instruments, but I believe He will answer our prayers in so many ways. If we have doubts about something we can James 1:5 it.
