Sprint is unbelievable!

I signed up with sprint a few days before Christmas. I decided that I did not want to continue service with them. There was difficulty hearing people at times, plus Metro PCS is about $30.00 a month cheaper than Sprint. So I canceled service on January 4th.
They sent me a bill for $88.00! I finally got around to calling them last week and getting the bill straightened out. They charged me 2 something by the day, and actually added a few days to the service. I made a partial payment, a little over 1/2 what I owe them. Today, Sunday not even a full week after I made a payment and spoke with a representative, I get a call from Sprint.
First, they put me on hold after calling me. I waited a few solid minutes before they got a representative on the line to speak with me. Then the guy tells me I owe $48 and some change. WHAT??!! Now, my bill was recalculated at $30 some dollars, I paid $15.00. So how do I owe $48 something? There is a $25.00 late fee he says. WHAT!!?? I want to speak with someone who can straighten this bill out. He tells me he is the only one I can speak with now, that I have to deal with him, that I need to pay the bill, that I broke the contract with Sprint. I became livid after hearing this. I did not break the contract, the first month is a trial. I have 30 days to decide if I want to keep Sprint or not.
Since I didn't even see a bill yet after they generated the new amount, how can they even call me to collect such an exorbitant late fee?
Legally, can a company charge a late fee without telling you? Can they put you in their collections before generating a paper bill?

I know how it feels to be over charged it so frustrating, I'm currently being over charged by my phone and internet provider. I wish I could find a carrier thats more reasonable in price, but apparently all the phone and internet providers over charge with this fee or that fee, its so annoying and unfair there should be better laws to protect consumers from being over charged.

I agree. Most of those fees are taxes from the state and federal government. That is why I choose a cell phone instead of having a house phone. On a house phone, the fees and taxes are absolutely ridiculous. When I had a house phone, almost 1/2 of my bill was tax. And what is with the emergency service fee for 911? HUH?
It looks as though the cell phones are catching up with the landline phone as far as taxes, etc. The original Sprint plan, if I had stuck with them, was $69.00. The taxes were approx. $13.00. Still better than the landline, but........sales tax is only .06%. The government is trying to bleed us dry for all this tax on a necessity.
I hope that soon you are able to get a different service that is less expensive.
Have you contacted your state attorney general in regards to any fees that are not tax? Perhaps the state will intervene if the fees are unfair.

True--what a surprise! One I could certainly live without. It is true about anything though, you have to be careful when making purchases because you may get hit with hidden charges.

Hi rosegardens,
I am sorry you had to go through this trouble. However, did you read their TOS before signing up for the free trial? These people always come up with twisted rules to screw people. You should write a complaint to them and see what they do. The customer service people usually cannot do much.

I will call them to see what they have to say about that insane fee, also to have them recalculate the bill because they did charge me for 15 days and I had the service only 12 days and they billed me for 15.
Thank you for your advice. It is probably better to write a letter, but I do not have the patience for waiting to see what they do and when they do it. Putting something in writing is always better. Unfortunately they do not have an email addy so I will have to pen a letter to mail it. I may do that if they cannot satisfy me with a phone call.
Happy Mylotting!
