Are you brave enough to take a chance?

With your hair I mean. Hairdressing schools in your area have stylists in training. Students are required to practice on real-life customers, usually with supervision, before receiving professional certification, and services will cost you much less than the usual fee. Years ago I had a friend. He was on a limited budget and he did this. He seemed to like the work that was done.

I did that years ago.. I went to the local hairdressing school's salon for a perm. It didn't stick and I was really disappointed. I can do an at home perm that sticks perfectecly, but that school's perm went limp the next day! I won't be going back.

If you saw my hair you'd understand why I cannot be brave. Take a look at my profile I have pictures there. I joke all the time about cutting my hair but the fact is as of right now I have been growing it for 14 years, 3 months and 5 days. In ten minutes it will be six days. (todays date is 3-8-2010) I have been taking care of this mane for sooooo long I don't know if I am ready to cut it. It has become part of my identity and it would definitely hurt to let it go. I will have to travel the US and visit all my family and friends so they could see me before I cut my hair. And I think a lot of my lady friends would be pretty upset too... Lol..

This is extremely interesting as it makes a lot of sense and it seems beneficial to both people. It is good experience, you can get critique, and make some money. It's no fun to work on dummies and then be rejected from the society from cutting their hair. My hair is an easy cut, because I have a buzz cut, but I only trust a few people, because one time a new person butchered my hair.

No why would I? Why pay someone else, even a student, to do something I can do for free. Well practly free. I've got limited funds and if I can style my hair myself for the cost of the supplies I chose to use, then why make and pay someone else to do it?

That's cuz they're not gonna send you a 9 YO to cut your hair, even if they're students they have already some knowledge in the topic ;D

Many years ago when I had hair, I would visit the Minneapolis Barber School to get my hair cut/styled. Everyone needs a chance in life and this is how the students learn. Just like Interns at Dr. offices/clinics etc do. As always..... HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

In the past I have been a model at a hairdressing school and was always quite happy with the end results. My only bad experience was when I was asked if I wanted my hair cut and they cut it too short

I wish I still had the opportunity. I used to go to a hair school all the time to get my hair done. I would look over the heads they have done, which they usually had sitting out, to gage their experience level. But I can say I've had perms, cuts and colors from student hairdressers, and never had a complaint. The instructors usually only let the seniors do hair anyway, at least where I used to go. But now, that school is closed, and the closest one to me isn't on my usual beaten path. Oh well, I rarely get my hair done anyway. But don't be fearful of using student hairdressers. They give great results!

i probably would. my mother has done this i liked the results she got. she did it mainly because it was much cheaper than certified hair stylists. i would probably just go to a barber shop instead because i mainly just get buzz cuts.

my mom used to take us to the local technical college to get our hair done for a few $ instead of retail in a salon. Thanks for this idea cause I'd really like to get my hair done but I don't want a walk-in hair style but I can't afford a real trendy salon either KWIM?

I don't care much about my hair. The reason is I have good hair and I got it heriditary. I have a long hair now. Three years ago, I cut the hair and went for perming. But, now my hair have grown more and I have curls only in the bottom portion, and it is not very visible. I took the risk to apply chemicals in my hair to make it look curly becuase I like curly hair.

When I was really low on cash, I used to go to the student hairdressing salon at my college. And actually, they were surpisingly good, and gave me exactly what I asked for completely free of charge
