People's Choice vs. Academy Awards

My mom and I have argued over which award show should matter the most. My mom says that because People's Choice is all about the audience- the actual people who pay to see the movies- that it should be more important than the Academy Awards which usually doesn't reflect the box office numbers. I, though, argue that the Academy Awards is not about popularity but about the artcraft of movie making and it gives small budget films that don't have public endorsers and huge campaigns recognition. What about you? Which award do you think means more?
