We hear a lot of talk about congress needs to be more Bipartisan. But just what is it and how is it achieved? Do you think President Obama can achieve bipartisanship?

Bipartisan is where you have congress people not thinking of a platform for there parties they are thinking of making the best possible policy by listening to the other side and both sides are working together to hash out a compromise that will work for both sides. It is difficult to achieve when you have the parties how they are sitting now which is similar to how street gangs are they really have no real reason to hate/dislike the other guys but they know that they have to in order to fit in with there fellow party members. The best way to achieve this goal would be for the general public to reject the platforms of both parties then they would be forced to move together to get the public to vote for them again. It would make it a CYA situation for them. President Obama can urge them to do it. He could even meet with Republicans and take some of there Ideas but really he can't change congress. Congress and the People of this nation have to do it. That is why it is funny that he is talking about and up and down vote in congress because they are equal to him in power he can't tell them what to do and they can't tell him what to do unless he is getting impeached or something. Checks and Balances what makes our country so great. So yeah.

To be bipartisan I don't think you have to compromise your principals. I think it is more of working to find people who agree with you on a specific issue. President Reagan and President Clinton were very good at this. They met with congressional people and discussed an idea, then look for common ground. Then you build a bill around it and put in things that each side can live with.

you don't but with the group/gang/sheepness of the parties right now it will be very hard to get any bipartisanship to roll through congress even though some members of both parties are really trying to achieve this goal of finding that middle ground that the other members of congress don't want to be found.

I think bipartisanship only seems to really work well when you have consumate politicians. For instance, you mentioned Reagan and Clinton. They both were very political animals and they were good at the game. They knew how to pick their fights, how to win over enough votes from the other side and when it was hopeless and time to walk away. Bush and Obama, not so much. Whether or not Barack Obama can learn about bipartisanship will determine whether or not he has a successful presidency. To me it's a bit like the old Kenny Rodgers' Song "Know when to hold em, know when to fold em, know when to walk away & know when to run.." Reagan and Clinton both got that song, Bush didn't and so far, Obama hasn't.

In todays debate on Health Care I think both Clinton and Reagan would start with small fixes and build form there. Find the members of Congress who agree with you and work with them.

Bipartisanship is when you force your opposition to give in. Your side might also have to give up some ground but your side has won the war. By forcing the other side to give up their opposition ground they are force to accept the premise of your argument. Here it is in a nut shell, Side A want everyone to eat 100% rat poison. Side B want no one to eat rat poison. Side A and Side B compromise on everyone will eat only 10% rat poison. Granted Side A gave up much more, but Side B lost the war because they accepted the premise that everyone should eat rat poison.

merriam webster: of, relating to, or involving members of two parties ; specifically : marked by or involving cooperation, agreement, and compromise between two major political parties My definition: both parties working together and compromising to achieve cohesion. Can Obama achieve this? Heck no, not the way he is going. The democrats are constantly barking about the republicans. and the republicans are constantly barking about the democrats. Until Congress can grow up, this will not be done. I do not think this is all Obama's fault, but I do think if he were a better leader, he would find a way to get closer.

It is involving cooperation, agreement, and compromise between two major political parties. In our government it will never be achieved. The 2 main parties will never be able to come to an agreement that will suite them all. Oh they may say they have but no matter what, they will still fight for what they want in their own way. One will have to give a little on one thing to achieve what they want on another. Neither will face the fact that they did not take into consideration the citizens and what was best for them. As for Obama and bipartisanship, I'm not sure he even cares, He is only doing what he is told to do. Can't people see what is going on in Washington D.C.? Obama may have the title but he is being used by the Federal Reserve Banks owners who are the true owners of the USA and it's what they want that he has to fight for. Why do you think the Feds made and loaned trillions of dollars (without any kind of backing)to our Government? AND Now they are demanding payment...I can't believe people are so blind to what is happening right under there noses.
