What does everyone keep in their survival kits?

We always just had a general first aid kit when I was growing up with things like gauze and bandaids and antiseptic in it, but recently I was reading about how that's not enough and there are other things you should include ( http://www.1800prepare.com/ ), and it got me thinking, what do I actually need? So I wanted to ask other people what they keep in theirs. I don't want to get stuff that I will never need, but at the same time I don't want to need something and not have it. So what do you guys keep in your survival or disaster kits? Food? First aid supplies? Anti bacterial gel? Flares? Water purifying tools? I'm confused. Thanks!

Wow. I'm not sure where to start. I guess it depends on where you live. Where I am there is little risk of flooding, so I don't need a boat. As far as first aide goes, ours is in the linen closet next to the bathroom. Seemed a good place, grab a towel for blood and the kit. I'm just now investigating things that you need. Now, where we live we always have a blanket in the car. You never know how you will use it. Summer for shade, winter for warmth. Flashlights are under the sink. I guess everyone knows what to grab if we have to. Everyone knows to grab a blanket no matter what... unless it's fire... then get low and go.
