I have been wondering if it's a healthy habit to eat heavy before bedtime. Some suggest that it doesn't really matter what you eat before bedtime because food are utilized all through the night. Can you gain a lot of weight from eating too much before sleep? I use to eat fruits before going to sleep is this healthy? Give me your opinion guys :)

In my case there's nothing wrong with eating a lot at night. I digest food real fast so even if I eat a plateful I have no difficulty with that. I would rather have a full feeling than to suffer a terrible night feeling hunger. During the days of war some fighters didn't eat food for days and overeat after. There are days that I eat a lot during the night and by next day I do not have breakfast at all.

So how does it affect your weight? In my case I can't sleep well with my stomach full because I use to get up at dawn feeling bloated. But I guess it varies from person to person.

On the contrary, I can't sleep if I eat before I go to bed. ^^

I don't know if it can make you gain a lot of weight if you eat before bedtime, but i try not to go right to sleep after eating i try to if i eat something before going to bed that i am going to be up for another hour or two, because you really don't need to be getting up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and a lot of nights its hard for me to sleep so i am usually up for a bit before i go to sleep. I guess it probably would depend on what you had before you went to sleep if it was something like fruit i wouldn't think that it would bother you too much and i doubt that it would make you gain weight.

I appreciate your opinion man. I believe the best way is just to eat lightly before bedtime and drinking just a zip of water will help me to have a good night sleep. I also agree that fruits won't bother too much in my sleep.

I don't think it is a good habit to eat before bedtime, the feeling is not good to have so many food in my stomach when I lie on my bed, and I would think it would cause illness if I eat heavy before bedtime, maybe different people can have different life style, but it is quite impossible for me to do it.

eating too much before sleeping is not good in health. if you eat too much, you must rest for a while before go to bed.

Well i think taking too much of food and water, will make you awake in late nights. And at same time you can sleep full, but make sure it does increase your weight. Well fruits are real best and its healthy too. So go ahead with fruits.

When you're sleeping you're not using much energy at all so your body is going to convert the calories from the food it is absorbing into fat because it's not being used. I've also read that your intestines need activity in order to function correctly, to move food throughout your digestive tract, so laying still while sleeping isn't helping your body in that area either. A light snack of fruit isn't as bad as having a heavy meal or loading up with sugary snacks though.
