Do you prefer hardwood floors or carpeting?

I really love hardwood floors the best. We had hardwood floors in our old townhome, in the kitchen and in the livingroom. We are in a new house now, and have adopted a black lab, so we won't be installing any hardwood floors anytime soon. I would be so fearful of all the scratches he would put on them when he gets excited and runs through the house like a maniac lol.

Humm, I like the way hardwood floors look. But prefer carpeting in my own home. Hardwood floors are to cold in the winter, to hard to keep clean since you have to sweep and mop them. Carpets just have to be vaccumed. I also dont like that the hardwood floors are so slick. But they are pretty

I couldn't agree with you more dixie. I have had homes with hardwood floors and I didn't like it. Even though it was very pretty. They are hard to keep clean and no matter how much I dustmopped, my feet always got dirty. So I would walk in socks but that would be very slippery. Then there is the kid factor. Wow does that cause a knot on their head if they fall!!! Then there are scratches. I went to move my desk and didn't realize a piece was still touching the floor. You could see the entire move. Even though hardwood is easier to clean spills from...I just have not liked them. But they are really pretty!!!!

i love hardwood, but i would prefer carpet in the bedrooms i hate waking up and having to stand on the cold ground, if you keep the puppys claws trimmed you shouldn't have to worry about him scratching your floors up.

I like hardwood floors more, I think that they are easier to clean and stay new-looking longer. When carpet starts to age...it really looks grungy and gross...it can even smell.

That is so true on the grungy and gross and smelling. If you take care of the hardwood floors they can last forever. Thanks for sharing ;-]

Hardwood floor is nice looking and quality one. Carpet is alsways dusty and trouble. Though maintaining hard floor might be little hard. But it really looks good.

I like hard wood floors for the living and dining areas and carpets for the bedrooms.

I prefer carpeting in most rooms just because it's much warmer to walk on in winter. I chose tile over hardwood in my kitchen, foyer, and bathrooms, because tile holds up so much better. My daughter put hardwood flooring in his living room, and even though they've only had it for 2 years, it has a lot of scratches on it from the children playing.

That was the main reason we never put them in this house, the dog would have them all messed up with scratches. We had ceramic tile in the entry way of our old home, I truly loved that. Thanks for sharing ;-]

I agree they do look so much better than carpeting. I think it really enhances the house when you have hardwood flooring in them. Thanks for the reply ;-]

I would like to have wooden floors in the kitchen area, but for the rest of the house would much prefer to have carpet. Wood is too cold, and carpet just looks nicer I think

hardwood floors are wonderful if you are plagued with allergies. carpet holds all the dust and dander, despite vacuuming. i dont have any carpet in my house.

hard wood floor anytime! its nice looking, easy to maintain and fits anywhere in the house! carpets collects dusts and a source for asthmatic attack in children and elder people. although hardwood flooring is much more expensive in malaysia.

Laminate flooring is a good alternative. It is harder to damage, so it might hold up to the Lab a little better. It has the look of hardwood and is also a little cheaper. I recently ripped up my carpet and replaced it with laminate that looks like hardwood and I love it. I also find it easier to clean than the carpet. The carpet got stained and not long after I shampooed it, it looked horrible again. All I do now is sweep the laminate every day or two and run the swiffer wet jet about once a week.

Our vinyl flooring - 06
We did used vinyl that looks like wood in our kitchen. I would have really like the real hardwood though. Thanks for sharing ;-] This is a view from the hallway into the kitchen, you can see the how it really looks like wood, but it is the vinyl flooring.

I've never had hardwood floors to be able to compare it to having carpet. I've considered putting in stone tile floors in my kitchen areas and near my front door and carpet everywhere else, but my dream hasn't come true yet.

Right now I have carpet and don't really care for it. I would rather have hardwood floors with area rugs were needed. Is there a treatment you can use on hardwood floors to protect them. God Bless

I prefer carpeted floors, unfortunetly one of my sons has allergies so we removed the carpet in most of the house and put down laminated flooring. I find it a bit cold but easy to clean

It depends on the room. I love hardwood floors in the dining room, kitchen, sitting room. But as for my bedroom, living room, office, there has to be carpeting.

I prefer hardwood, even though mine need to be refinished. I have asthma, and the carpeting really doesn't help my asthma.

I have always liked carpet more but alas I am getting older. The softness of carpeting was great growing up..you know playing on the floor, rolling around, wrestling, all the little things kids do. Ironically its the fact that my son spills his juice all the time id much prefer hardwood floors. Plus my old age seems to like the beauty of it which far outways the comfort of carpet.
