I was one! Yes, I had been admitted in the ICU (intensive care unit) before, at the tender age of 12. It's my scariest experience to date. I had been bitten by a mosquito that carries a disease called Dengue Fever. It sucked most of my blood and led me to on and off fever for a few days. I thought it was just an ordinary flu, but it turned out to be Dengue Fever. I was admitted in the hospital, but confined me directly to the ICU for close observation. I was so scared! I don't even have my parents on my side coz there is limited visiting hours only. Thankfully, I survived that and healthy as ever. But I wouldn't forget that horrible experience that almost killed me if I was too late. How about you guys, have you ever been an ICU patient? or have you been confined in a hospital? what are your experiences? Kindly share.

I have been to the ICU a few times. The worst one was waking up after surgery in the ICU department for heart patients. I remember seeing a nurse hooking up a bag of something and then seeing my sister very sad before I passed out again. I found out later that I had bled so much during surgery that my heart had stopped and I was brought back. It was very scary!

Oh, that's a scary experience. I'm glad you turned out okay, though. It can really be frightening. Your heart stopped?? Thank God you were brought back to life. Please take care of yourself to avoid having surgery and being confined again. Thanks for sharing!

Boy, that does sound pretty serious. Well for me, I haven't been into an ICU before at a hospital. But I have been to the hospital to get an operation. I was pretty nervous and hesitant about it. I came out okay. I hope I never have to get to an ICU.

Hi nijolechu, I'm glad you didn't have experience being in the ICU. too bad about your operation, I could imagine how scary it would be, but it's good you came out okay. I also hope you wouldn't see the inside of the ICU, just take care of yourself, ok? Thanks for sharing!

hi dorothy, that's great to hear you haven't been confined to the icu before. I agree that some sickness are psychological and "it's only in the mind". If we only think that way, maybe there are less sickness in the world. Thanks for sharing!

HI friend, with grace of GOD, i was never too sick to get hospitalised or to be in ICU. However i can understand the pain a patient experiences, because My Bro was in ICU for 2 months, when he fell down from running train, my father was in ICU for a week when he had heart problem. In ICU they do not allow any visitor most of the time, as it may cause more infection to the patient and may harm him/her.

Hi common_man, Well, it's good to hear you haven't been confined yet. It is really a hard and painful experience to be one. I'm sorry for your brother and father though. Yup, they have strict visiting hours. I can only be visited at 8am-10am and 6pm-8pm, one at a time.

I never experienced admitted in the ICU but I am rendering care for patients in the ICU. Yes, I am a nurse and the ICU for me is where the deepest emotions burst. Sometimes you are carried by these emotions but as a health care provider Empathy is the only thing you can give your patients. I prefer being an OR nurse that ICU. Good Thing you recovered. Avoid exposing your self to places where day mosquitoes might bite you. And aslo be sure to remove all breeding sites of these creatures. Good day!

I am a student nurse. Every now and then I get to see patients lie their backs on that very uncomfortable ICU beds. I pity them and wish I have a magic wand to take all their agonies away but I am just a plain human being. The only thing I do is to take care of my patients religiously _^^
