After being defeated by Wigan in the league last Monday night, Liverpool went to Lille for the Europe League competition looking for better result.
Even though Liverpool are in control for most of the time and had a few great chances, the Reds forwards can not get pass the Lille goal keeper, Mickael Landreau.
Liverpool once again shown that the can not concentrate for the whole 90 minutes. Eden Hazard score the winning goal for Lille five minutes before the final whistle. This win give much confident to Lille side when they meet again in Anfield next week.
Even though European competition records for Liverpool in Anfield this season is not convincing, Benitez still confident that Liverpool can secure their passage to the quarter-final there.
What do you think about Liverpool chances in Europe League? Can they pass Lille resistances?

I might frustrated if this is happen a last one or two years ago. But, I am not worried too much about Liverpool being knock-out at this stage by Lille this season.
Their performance this season is very unexpected. They can win against much strong team like Manchester United but lost to a team like Portsmouth. Their performance just like yo-yo. Nothing can be assured.
But I still do believe they will win in Anfield and qualify for quarter-final.

Hi adhyz,
I believe Liverpool can win in Anfield and progress to Europa League quarter-final. There is no doubt about it. But they must play with their head and their heart. I think Lille will come to Anfield with defensive tactic. They will try to defend the one goal lead and rely on counter attack.
If Liverpool can score an early goal, they have a greater chance to progress. Lille will be more open in their game and try to score goal. This will open the defense and Liverpool will have more chance to make counter attack.

Liverpool is not in the form like the previous session. i think the reason may be the injury problem of their main main players like torres, gerrard kyut etc. as well as goal keeper Reina is also not in form. in this session, Liverpool can not score the goals lack of performance in forward line. and even when they are leading they conceeding the goals due to misunderstandings between defenders and goal keeper.

Hi goldenrose,
I also believe that Liverpool performance drop drastically compare to previous season due to injuries of their top players. But the big drop in performance is unbelievable. They lost to many point home and away and even to the team that struggle to survive in Premier League such as Portsmouth.
It is true that defense is not the stronger point for Liverpool. Last season is the best for defender but no now. They always made a lot of mistake and commit a silly foul or did not mark their opponent wisely. They also always lost of concentration especially in the last 10 minutes. They always conceded goal during this time.

This has been a horrible year for Liverpool across all the competitions, whether it be English Premier League, Champions League or even Europa. They have not played upto their potential. It seems that the Gerrard and Torres combination that helped Liverpool to win a lot of matches last year does not seem to be lethal this season. Again I feel the biggest loss is the loss of Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid and his replacement in the form of Aquilani is a misfit.

Hi abhishek,
This season is the worst season since Rafa Benitez take the helm. They are struggle in every position.
There is a lot of lost concentration in the last 10 to 15 minutes especially for the defenders and goalkeeper. It is not happen once or twice but many times and they look like never learn from it. Previously, defensive are the most reliable position in Liverpool.
They are also struggle to score goal especially when Torres was not around. There is no capable forward in Liverpool team that can replace Torres. David Ngog is inexperience while Babel put too much effort to show his dribbling movement.
Losing Xabi Alonso might help in Liverpool poor performance. But it should not be a problem if Benitez could find a same or better replacement. Aquilani is not the suitable substitution. Alonso is a defensive midfielder while Aquilani is an attacking midfielder. Alonse rarely went forward and usually can cover the defender when Liverpool is under attack.
I think Benitez should make a lot of changes for the next season. He should off load the player he does not use and look for a better player.

The problem that rafa benitez is facing right now is one of choice..he has two supremely talented players in the form of torres and gerrard and therefore the other players are trying to play around them..all moves start with gerrard and ends with him or torres while the others act as mere support staff..now in present day football you cannot afford to do that ..your opponents will easily find it out and they will kill your game by blocking your main players...so rafa needs to infuse new recruits..this is precisely the reason for the downfall of liverpool this season and if rafa can't get over it then i see no chance of liverpool making it to the next round..as the return leg is to be played in anfield so liverpool start as slight favourites but if they don't change their style of play then they will end up losers once again.

Hi Naxous,
Rafa Benitez has no choice but to rely on Gerard and Torres. Without this two players, Liverpool seem not functioning well. Gerard is Liverpool mastermind while Torres is their goal getting machine. When ever one or both of them does not play (or play but not perform well), Liverpool look like lose. They look like do not know what they are doing on the field.
One main problem for Liverpool is they depend too much on Torres to score the goal. The other forward player can not put the ball into the net even when there is no between them and the goal post. Benitez should look into this position next season (if he still in-charge). David Ngog and Ryan Babel look like does not know where is the goal post. They always miss a great chances.
If Liverpool can improve they games and put more concentration in their game against Lille, I believe they can progress to the quarter-final. Otherwise, they will see no trophy season again.
