I by the Grace of God got off work early tonight and while being out with my children saw cute puppies outside of the pet shop in a cage. I went in and asked about them and they are mixed but Golden Retriever. We have been looking for a Golden Retriever for a while and now we have gotten a great deal because someone dropped them off and they hadn't even had their shots yet. They are mixed with Chow? I beleive. Anyway I was wondering what is the best dog food out on the market for a Golden Retriever? I have been looking around, but I live in a small town, and we don't have a lot of the smaller brands like Blue and Nutra, we carry a lot of the purina and IAMS and things like that, but no smaller brands. If anyone has any ideas as to what is the best dog food to get for this specific puppy please let me know. I also researched it on the internet and it said that with the bigger dogs there is more of a health risk so you have to make sure that it has plenty of protein and a specific diet because it can get hip problems, OCD, blindness, and many more problems because it will be a big dog. Please help, I have no idea. Thanks to all!

Congratulations on the new member of your family. While the dog is still a puppy, any kind of Puppy Chow is what is appropriate to feed them until they loose their milk teeth because the adult varieties of food are harder for them to chew. Now, this will at least be sufficient until you take it for the first vet appointment. When you take the dog to the vet, they will probably recommend the specialty food that is appropriate for your dog and they may even sell it there.

Hello! Congratulations with your new dog! It will look great I think when he will grow up...I would suggest you to go to the nearest dog shop and just ask for a good puppy food! There are lots of brands and lots of kinds as well (like fish, chicken etc.) Every dog can have an illness! It is very important to feed your dog just with dog food! And don't give to him sweets, cookies etc. that could be bad for his heart! It is also very important to him to have a good exercises every day so his bones grow up strong and in a good shape! Look good after your dog and don't forget to take him to vet for injections (till 6 month he should have injection against worms in his stomach - it has a special name of course....- it is very important to have this injection!) Good luck! And don't forget about teaching a dog so later on he doesn't grow up a wild dog but smart happy loved dog!!!

Wow, how exciting! There are many wonderful pet related website that you might want to check out. As far as the food goes, you can check out having it delivered to your home for free as most of the sites offer that these days. Check out Cesar Milan's site for training tips. Check our Dr Foster's site as you can learn alot there and they have an excellent blend of advice that is Vet based. You'll have a wonderful dog on your hands who by the mix of breeds should be on the large side but super loving and loyal. Pictures?? Sounds adorable! I love how silky chows are and yet with the Golden Retriever mix, the shedding shouldn't be as much. You will need to also brush him/her regularly to help keep their fur healthy. I'd take him to the Vet asap to make sure there are no worms etc that need to be taken care of before too much time goes by. And the shots are very important to get on time as well as they are growing. I am abit envious as I recently had to give up my beloved dog and miss her terribly. Take care!!
