Actually, how many of you ever thought about you are paying too much for your cell phone service? Because you might paying some features that you really don't need, or you might not use them that much in a monthly basis. I have a blackberry, and I have a data plan and the phone service plan. I pay around over $50 per month. The great thing about it is that I can read my email instantly, and occasionally, I can surf the web online anywhere I go. But in reality, I don't really surf the web from my cell phone that much. I either do my major search at home computer or work computer. About email, mostly are friends trivial email. With this data plan, I pay extra $20 more. For saving money sake, I think that without it is the better choice for me. Have you thought about what kind of features that you don't use from your cell phone, and you can save some money from it?

I think you are just putting your money into junk. i agree the services what you have are good but when you dont need them they are of no use. you are putting your $50 just like for those services for which you are not interested alot. so in my view you must choose some lighter service options

Yeah, I absolutely agreed with you. I just waste that much money monthly, which I can have a good use of them alternatively. Money is really tight nowadays, and I am also striving to make them save. I guess that I have change some of those plans.

I know what you mean. Most of the personal finance articles that I have read suggest that you have to review your cellphone data plan with a critical plan because chances are you don't need them, you just want them. They suggest that cellphones should be for calling only. I do tend to agree with them, unless you are a busy executive who needs to be tethered to the digital world. But if our parents survived without it, how can we not?

We have a family plan, and we pay around $140 per month, which is a lot. But we like being able to surf, and I mostly use my phone/email for work. It would be more difficult to run my business without my blackberry, especially as I don't have a car.

I have a ton of features I dont use but cant take them off because we have a family shared plan. I have unlimited text messages I never used but my daughter sends about what seems like 300 texts an hour, I have navigation which is the feature I use the most, I have a data plan which I never use but my husband and daughter get their emails and other things. I wish sometimes I could take all this stuff off so my bill would come down.

I've read somewhere that majority of people who have cell phone are over paying for their service. I guess I'm one of the few that don't feel like I'm over paying. I have unlimited plan for $79.99/month & with tax & fees, my bill comes out to $90.48/month. I have blackberry so I have data plan & access to emails on my phone as well. I spend around 2,500 - 3,000 minutes a month on phone calls & about 2,000 messages. I have service through t-mobile & they do have unlimited talk & text message plan for $59.99 but it doesn't include data & emails. I do use interenet on my phone, 20mb +, every month. Everybody's needs are different so if you don't need it, then I think you're doing the right thing by getting rid of it.

I don't pay much for my phone bill at all. That might be because i don't pay for more than i use. I don't use internet or email or anything like that simply because i doubt my phone can even do that but i also don't pay for more minutes and texts than i need :)

I don't think I over-spend for my cell phone. I pay just under 130/month. That's for two lines unlimited talk 24/7. Unlimited text on the primery line (mine) and that's it. That comes to just under 130/month. I don't believe in using data plans I don't need. I can brows the weather or check my account status for free as well as check my e-mail if I want to all for free.

It depends on your needs. If you do not need to check your email or surf the web on your phone, then cancel those services and save yourself the extra 20 bucks a month. That is 240 USD you are saving each year by downgrading your monthly service.
I have grown accustomed to having the internet on my phone and being able to check email. On the phone I currently have, I cannot access all parts of the web. If it requires flash or Java, I cannot use the site. But I will eventually get a phone that has the Java included so I can check Mylot when I am not home.
I do not like to pay for things I do not use, so if I were you I would ditch those extra things until I did need them. Ultimately the choice is up to you.
Happy Mylotting!
