Have you ever been in a road accident?

Hubby is on his way home. He rang me to say someone hit his motorbike. Luckily he is unhurt but his bike will need mending as it broke the brake pedal in the fall. I'm just glad he is okay. Last year in this month, his brother was killed on his motorbike. I haven't ever been in a serious crash or accident. I have fallen from my bicycle a couple of times and once had stitches where I hit the road with my chin. Once in the car, we took a bend too fast and ended up in a ditch but we were both unhurt and the car was pulled out by a tractor and was drivable. Have you ever been in a road accident?

Hi, pandaeyes. Not exactly. I was once hit by a white car that was coming in front of me. I fell off my bike and my head had hit the road. It was very painful. And one time me and this guy that I was going with was riding in the same car together and we was arguing. So, he saw a car and he slammed onto brakes and he hit the back of this car. It was a big blow of an impact. I was very scared. He was like better yet let's die together. That is what he told me when I told him to slow down before he hits a car. That is the only time that I was in an road accident. Thank God that I was not hurt or killed because of this. I a very glad that your husband was okay. And that he was in no way hurt.

Oh my....the second part must be really horrifying for you. He shouldn't do that at all... even when in a big argument. Luckily nothing happened to you..

Must have been the red mist with that second incident of yours. Golly people really lose control over silly things sometimes. Hubby is having the day off today as his elbow is quite stiff but he only really grazed it.

I've been in several, none serious. The first was my fault, just after I got my license. I've had two where the other driver turned in front of me and recently someone it the car behind me and he hit me. Luckily, he had left about a car's length between us so all that happened was his license plate screws chipped the paint on my back bumper. One of his passengers went to the hospital. The insurance company of the woman who caused it could hardly believe I didn't want any money. I've been blesed, not having been in a serious injury accident. However, many idiots have crossed my path!

A couple of years ago ,hubby came off when a car drove into him from behind at a junction, she thought he had already ridden off and because she didn't just do a last minute check, it knocked him off. Luckily it was just a few bruises. He is a very careful bike driver, he wont risk take at all.

Nothing major for me.. and I hope no more minor ones too in the long run, till forever. There had been some hiccups and glitches along the way for me before, but I'm so thankful that nothing bad happened. Glad that your husband is unhurt and do take care whenever riding/driving. Sometimes, the weather plays an important factor too..

Yes that's true about the weather. In the snow that we had recently, there were quite a few near misses, not by us but one car came out of its drive and literally glided across the road. They all get out and went back in the house.

Wow! I'm so glad to hear your hubby is not hurt! I'm sorry to hear about his brother, though. I know that accidents on motorbikes and motorcycles can be deadly. They really scare me. I saw someone get killed on a motorcycle when he was hit by a car and he wasn't wearing a helmet. Not a pretty sight. I've been in a few accidents. The first was when I was a passenger in the back seat of a car driven by my mother's boyfriend, who was a complete jerk. He was drunk and driving on tires with no tread and it just began raining. The car started spinning and ended up wrapped around a pole. The pole hit the car where I had been sitting and threw me across to the other side. I was bruised up pretty bad and had some cuts from the glass but was okay other than that. The next one, the worst one, happened because a car dealership did not fix my brakes when I took it to them to fix. Two months after getting my car out of the shop, supposedly with fixed brakes, I was driving behind a truck. It was raining. The truck braked to make a left-hand turn and I started braking also but my car started sliding and shifting so the back end went into the oncoming traffic. Apparently, only my left front brake was working and that locked up. I couldn't move to the right-hand lane because of traffic. I couldn't brake because that sent my rear end into oncoming traffic. So, I decided the only thing I could do was prepare to hit the truck, which had stopped to make the turn. I hit it pretty good, too. In a flash, all I saw was the hood of my car. The entire front end was between 1 and 2 feet shorter. I was slammed into the steering column because wearing seatbelts was not a law at the time. (I began wearing my seatbelt right after this accident!) I got two broken ribs, a sprained neck, shoulder and knee. I also re-opened an incision on my left side because I had just had surgery a week before this accident. I was a mess! I'm not sure who was worse, me or my car. I sued the dealership for not fixing my brakes after I told them to and paid them to do it after they told me they did, but they didn't. Another mechanic (after this accident) told me that he would not have put his own family in that car with the brakes the way they were, and this was AFTER they were supposedly fixed. I won the lawsuit.

That is despicable! That's exactly what the police are SUPPOSED to be there for, to protect the innocent! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr! That's also despicable for that woman to keep on driving. Some people are so wrapped up in themselves that they can't be bothered to help others, even if they create the problem that needs help! I hope that woman still and always will until her dying day have that on her conscience. The way I look at these types of things is that Karma will catch up to them. Maybe she's already had a visit from Karma and she was hurt by someone else with no one coming to her assistance. One can hope, huh?

Well thank goodness you are okay now. I have come off my bicycle several times. twice from a car turning in front of me into a left hand side road without checking their mirrors . Once a woman drove out of a T junction as I was cycling past and she knocked my handlebars so I came off,I looked up and saw her looking at me in her mirror and she just kept on driving. I did get her car number and told the police who didn't seem very bothered(our local coppers are abysmal)

It is aggravating. We have had one or two equally lethargic replies from them.

At least you are alright though. That is pretty much what happened to my husband. He was in the outside lane and a car overtaking another one, did not notice him there. Motorbikes seem to become invisible even when they are right in the middle of the lane.

i have two accidents with a friend in a motorcycle! we went to a party and a bit groggy with the drinks. He was the one in the front and we were coming up a slope when we hit the side of a parked dump truck. Thank God we didnot crash hard. the bike just swerved and i had a couple of bruises in the legs. The second time was when we were riding one night and we were going on a bend when he did not turn the bike right and we crashed by the ditch. we lied on the road for minutes and got up with bruises and black eyes. We just laughed about it because we were a bit drunk that time.

yes, thank God that friend sold the bike because he did not get to accidents the times he was with me. He had more accidents with other persons riding at the back.

I think you are safer, not traveling with that same person. One of my neighbours nephews was killed while riding on the back of a friends motor bike. They were youths and he had been warned by his father not to take a ride with this person but he did in defiance and met his end.

That's sad. That's the trouble with machines that help speed things up, it is much more likely to hurt us if it goes wrong. Glad you are okay .

I am afraid of motorbikes. I was a passenger once as I was doing a volunteer job taking care of physically handicapped kids and this friend of mine used to go there too. Anyway I am really petrified of motorbikes and when I see one on the road I am extra careful since I know that an accident can prove fatal.I have been involved in minor car accidents. I have received a dent on the passenger's side. Luckily it was a minor thing, no one was hurt and on another occasion I was involved in a bumper to bumper collision.

I don't like them much myself but needs must as the petrol price to get to work is out of our price range if we were to use the car every day. We bumped bumpers once when my husband had just passed his driving test. The other driver was quite nice about it and neither car was damaged luckily.

Thank goodness he's ok hun. I have been lucy enough to avoid any kind of road accident since becoming a driver, however I was knocked off a motor bike I wasn't supposed to be on I was 14 at the time and the bike belonged to a friend's brother. He had said I could try to ride it and, for a whole five minutes, I rode the bike before one of the others in the group rode his bike alongside me and I was knocked off it onto the grass. No injuries thank goodness but a hiding from my Dad when I got home

Yeah me too. I'm not surprised your dad was angry, mine would have been too. I rally don't like motorbikes much. There is too much likely hood of the cars drivers not seeing the bike.

I am glad that you are safe still. I think Some countries roads must be more dangerous than others. Of course the more we use them, the more risk there is as well.

While learning to ride two wheeler, I fell down and got hurt in my left leg. The vehicle fell down on my legs. Then again after I learnt it and got my own, I again fell down with kids luckily none of us got that hurt. But the vehicle needed a little mending. Now that I am riding carefully accidents are avoided to a great extent.

Oh yeah riding a bike is lovely but learning to balance is awful. I couldn't manage to balance on a two wheeler till I was 10. My husband and his brother had a motorcycle to ride around the garden on when they were about 14 or 15.I expect their neighbours cursed it because it would be bound to be noisy.

It has been quite a few years since I was in a traffic accident. I had just gotten my car five days prior (brand new off the lot). I was driving a friend of mine to her grandpa's house and I was rear-ended. There was myself, my friend, her one year old daughter, and my three month old daughter in the car. Luckily, because of the fact that the children were in their carseats, they weren't hurt. I did end up with an injured back that still bothers me off and on to this day. By the way, that accident was exactly seven years ago.

Oh I imagine you were fuming about your poor new car. I have been bumped from behind when on a driving lesson. We were just waiting at the lights and the people in the car behind were chattering and didn't see the traffic had stopped. They rammed us and my instructor leaped out purple in the face. The driver was so apologetic and handed the instructor cash to get a new bumper.

There are so many near misses. I think that that is why they changed the size of motorcycle engines allowed to those who had not passed their bike tests here in the UK. Now the younger riders have quite low powered bikes and so are less likely to lose control at high speed.

All accidents I've been in have not had me at the driver's wheel. I've never been seriously hurt, but some just had little pains. I've never had to get anything like stitches from car accidents and what not. I guess I'm just a really lucky person. Also, the accidents I've been in were not serious and the airbags did not deploy.

My father in law bought a car from us, it was too big for me to manage and he was in need of a replacement. They had it about a month and then he wrote it off in an accident. It was such a shame as it was a lovely car just far too long for my newly acquired driving license . FIL had a few back problems after the accident but he did recover .

Sorry to hear that. Mine was just a bicycle tumble and not serious or anything. It is quite scary at the time just the same.
