Have you ever eaten shark?

I know, mere mention of a shark brings up visions of "a locomotive with a mouth full of butcher knives" but they are really good to eat. It is all white meat. If it is treated properly after it is caught there is no strong fishy taste, like mackerel and some others. It is all white meat and there are no bones. Sharks are cartilaginous and so do not have bones. As far as I am concerned, shark is the best fish there is when it comes to eating. If it is not handled properly right after it is caught, the meat will be reddish-tinged and it will have a strong taste and smell. When handled correctly, though, it is creamy white and delicious.

I had shark once, and I just loved the flavor and texture. The restaurant I had it at called it 'shark steak'. I would love to have it again but it's very, very pricy at the restaurants around here. I imagine it'd be cheaper in coastal towns right on the ocean where it doesn't have to be shipped inland. At least that's what they say about the price of lobster here, so I'm assuming it's the same deal with shark.

They can call it a "steak" because it is just a slab of meat. No bones. If it is bled and rinsed thoroughly shortly after it is caught, it is wonderful. If they do not do that, it is not so good.

I have eaten shark many times - mainly white shark. I don't like it very much, but the rest of family eats it very often and it is an invariable part of our meal every month.

never ate it. but if its anything like lobster i wouldnt like it. thats to strong flavored. now if its like oysters or even shrimp i would like it funny how different fish taste different, yet all chicken, pork, taste fairly close to the same.

It tastes really good especially when fresh. My father likes to go fishing as a hobby and when he does catch a shark or two my mom then cooks it up for stew or soups. Tastes better than fish especially when prepared correctly.

This is good information. I remember eating shark as a kid and I don't remember the smell but a dense texture. The shark was bought at an Asian fish counter in L.A. so who really knows. My grandmother has a habit of freezing things forever so that could be the reason it didn't taste like you described.
