What breed would be best?

Hi, I was looking to get a family dog, but wasn't quite sure what breed would be the most suitable for my household? We don't have any young children (the youngest is 15), and we have a fairly decent sized backyard. I didn't want anything too big (like a great dane), and preferably a dog that doesn't shed too much. Also, we were looking for a dog that could go on a jog with us at one point, then snuggle with us to watch tv. What breed do you think would fit in the best in the house?

Well, as you mentioned, a family dog is as far as i know is pom. We have 3 months old pom, which is very pampered and always be with us and do what ever we do. My hubby takes it for jog and while playing his tennis. Its just 3 months but very intelligent. Once you start loving it, it loves us back double. Try one!

I have had numerous dogs in my lifetime. The BEST on I had was half German Shepherd & half Golden Retriever. He was a large dog, but NOT as big as a Great Dane!!! He lived in the house with me, but also learned how to open the door to go outside. He loved to go jogging, but would curl up on my feet while I watch television. He was a kind & gentle yet protective dog. He was as loyal as they come!!! Only one problem, he did shed. However, if I brushed him regularly, the shedding stayed at a minimum. It might be a dog you would consider!!!

I have several dogs in my lifetime, and the best breed for me is a Labrador Retriever. We have had several labradors in the house, and all of them were memorable. They have this pleasant disposition and are very friendly and loyal to the family. Unlike poodles who will only have one master, the labrador is loyal to all members of the family. It is sometimes so cute when he goes back and forth to the members of the family trying to decide whom to follow. I had one labrador solve this problem by sitting midway between me and my brother. They do shed especially during winter time, but not too much. They can run with you, but you have to train them. They are gentle giants.

Go to the site puppyfind.com. They give you a good description of each bred and tell about the maintenance, grooming, size, etc. From what you have described, a lab, a labordoodle (lab/poodle), or one of the bigger hounds would be where I would start looking. I know that my walker hound would fit right into that style household perfectly. Once you have narrowed down the type of dog you are looking for go to the local shelter/humane society and see what they offer. These dogs are in need of a good home and unless you plan on breeding or showing the dog there is no reason to pay the high prices of owning a pure bred.

My family did an online test and it said either boston terrier or cocker spaniel. But the best dog we ever had was a chow/german shepherd mix...

From my experiences I've had with dogs. The best breed that I would recommed with anyone. Was my first and last dog I had. The first one I had was a German Shephard, those are good and loyal dogs and plus wonderful companions as well as perfect watch dogs. The last dog I had was a Black Lab, those are my favorites, they're sweet and gentle and kind.

I've had a few different breeds....Maltese are smaller and allergen free and really loving...but I've also had springer spaniels and shelties-which are just as sweet-but they do shed. My little springer spaniel thought he was a kid...he was so energetic and sweet. The sheltie is a bit nervous-always at the window barking and looking for an intruder LOL I guess you just have to go around looking and find one that you connect with.

Maybe something like a bulldog or jack russel terrier- a medium-sized dog with short hair- would be good? I'd suggest going to your local humane society shelter and meeting the dogs there- there's a variety of breeds and mixes that you could choose from. Plus it would be rescuing a dog from being put to sleep!

Hi.... If you like a family dog that don't shed much you can try poodle, Labrador, German Shepard dog. If you want dog that don't shed at all you can choose Portuguese water dog, its not shed at all and hypoallergenic too in chase you allergic to dog fur, its loyal and great playmate also good swimmer.
