I keep mine in plastic bins. Or in banana boxes I get from Aldi's if I don't have room in the 2 plastic bins I have. How about the rest of you?

I have a plastic container drawer thing that I bought to keep my socks and underwear in when I was living in the dorm and that is what I use to keep my yarn in. I don't buy a whole lot at a time as I only buy what I need for my current project. My mother has all of hers in a large plastic container that she has had for years. And, Brenda, Kathryn's old babysitter keeps hers in a large plastic bag that came from Kohl's.

I have quite a bit but that's because I found a ton the other year at a church rummage for pennies and you never know what will work with something else. And I have a large granny square blanket I like to putz with when I'm bored or have lil balls to use up.

Funny you should bring this up. On WasteNothing@yahoogroups, we are discussing it. One person puts the skein in a pringles can & punches a hole in the top to thread the yarn. Another used those vacuum bags but wasn't happy with it. She says it left a crease in the yarn that meant she couldn't use it for nice projects. I have mine in large clear plastic barrels that I get from eating generic cheese balls. After the goodies are gone, I wash the barrel really well & then store the yarn in it. I can see the colors & it keeps it lint & dust free when not in use.

And for the crochet thread, I just scored a bunch of those CD or DVD spindles from the 100 bulk sets. I'm goint to try storing my thread balls in there. Not sure it will work, though b/c they are large & cumbersome. I think they're going to take up too much room.. unless I can use them for the huge, 10,000 yard balls.

Pringles can seems interesting though wouldn't you really need a small skein & a very clean can? I don't think I'd like vacuum bags unless I was storing it for some time w/o using it you know like holiday colors or something.I would of never though of the cheese ball/pretzel barrels... that would work for the small lil balls of yarn. Interesting ideas...

I have a wooden chest that my husband got for me, plus a large plastic bag. The wooden chest holds merino and cashmere, the plastic bag has the acrylic and cotton. (The plastic bag is easier to get at for the kids if they want to knit).

i generally sort the wool by colours and then store it in a bag that is clearly marked according to colour. i find this way much easier when i am looking for something specific.

I store my yarns in a dry plastic container. I also have a 2-layer plastic cabinet that I have for my yarns. And also have a small container for my needles, crochet hooks, beads and earring hooks...
