I'd Like To Give Back This Ache

My back aches. Not the sort of deep "always there" pain that too many folk suffer, but a "You've overdone it today" type pain. How do you deal with your back aches and do you have any "unusual" recommendations that work for you.

When mine used to get like that, I used to tell the hubs "Honey, I need to get my knees bent".... Nudge, nudge, wink, wink and awhile later I felt brand new again.

I usually have a hot bath, using lavender oil. If Mr.Panda has a bad back, I'll give him a massage, using various oils, obviously he's very lucky having a qualified masseuse in the house. :)

Hi p1ke, There is one way that helps and that is lying on the floor knees bent then take a breath in and push the arch of your back onto the the floor hold it realx and do it again..it is an excercise that my physio taught me when I hurt my back-and it really does work and take the pain away, also another thing is not to slouch but try and keep your back straight. Hugs LoLo

Actually, yes. When I put my disc out in my back, they gave me painkillers for the time being, but gave me a big list of exercises to strengthen my back muscles that would push the disc BACK into it's proper place. They said my back pain would not lessen for several weeks until I was able to get the muscles strong enough to stop it. They were right, and if I am in extreme pain, I hunt around looking for the bloody pamphlet with the exercises on it and do them and they DO WORK wonders.

Massage, hot bath, sleep, stretching, walking, heat, ice... Unusual - go see a naturopathic doctor (but only if it's a chronic thing)...

A few weeks back I was really struggling with a back ache. I am on my feet for a lot of my work day and my shoes were a couple years old. I switched shoes and in a couple days the ache went away and hasn't been back since. We also have a chair that takes the pressure off your back. It made it feel better for a little while, but it didn't make it go away.

I keep a bottle of ginger capsules that help me a lot when I strain a muscle or have aches and pains from arthritis. It's also great for muscle spasms. Have you tried alternating heat and cold? You should go to bed and let the Boss bring you soup while you read a good book.

mine would mean a complete bed time rest. if possible, a good health massage or a heat therapy before bedtime. usually, it works after a good night sleep or two.

Hi p1key, Well when I have a back ache when I have over done it, I normally have a good soak in a bath and then sit with a hot water bottle behind my back while mylotting, you shouldn't be over doing it, take care, hugs. Tamara

Take Less than half cup of mustard oil and put three or four small pieces of garlic into the cup. Then put cup on the oven for three minutes. After then slowly rub the heated mustard oil on your back. You have to take someones help to rub the oil. In this case I think Your Boss is the proper person. I hope you will get relief from your back aches.

That sounds a good remedy. I shall add that to my list. Thank you Bhanusb.

I have been having the same sort of pain over the last few days. I over did the heavy lifting of boxes and shovelling concrete late last week and my back is still recovering. I used to suffer lower back pain all of the time. It was always with me, but it has been good the last few years until this week. I think my body is just not used to that much manual labour and subjecting it to it over a short amount of time was not good. I am trying to just keep it moving by doing stretches in the morning and during the day. I am also using one of those big fitness balls to sit on at the computer instead of my chair. This allows me to roll back and forth stretching my back, while still typing here!

Everyone suffers from back pain at one time or another. For the "you've overdone it" type, which I've been ofen guilty of, I try to be sensible about it and learn to relax. When the pain bothers me, I boil fresh ginger with 2 cups water and brown sugar to taste. I let it simmer until only one cup of the mixture is left. This works wonders for me because of its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, not to mention its other numerous health benefits. It's really a good practice to drink this concoction everyday. For fast pain relief, 15 minutes at a time of warm compress helps. Pain pills can make us dependent, but observing good health habits would be better. Make sure that we get all the necessary vitamins and minerals, Vitamins D, and E specially, calcium, magnesium, zinc, etc. Having 2 bananas and a serving of pineapple every dat can do the trick, instead of taking multivitamins. Regular exercise, reflexology and self-massage can greatly help, too. While resting is essential, staying in bed for a prolong period can make it worse. Have a pain-free day p1kef1sh.

I shall try the ginger drink. My wife drinks hot lemon every morning and says that it is wonderful too. Thank you for the advice.
16 Mar 10
My husband suffers with sciatica so I did a little course on reflexology basics and he says it works. Back ahce is usually the result of swelling in the spine, so a good thing to do is to take a couple of Ibuprofen tablets. To ease the ache you should treat the back area with intense heat for five minutes and then intense cold for the same amount of time. So get a hot water bottle and ice wrapped in a tea towel and get to work!

I suffer from DDD, degenerative disc disease. Lay on the floor face down. Arms in front of you. Legs lifted slightly off the floor. Rock and or stretch until it starts to feel sorer then stop and repeat until you wish to stop. This eases my pain each day I do this. As always..... HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!`

I take it easy on those days, and try not to hurt it any further. Plus, the ache makes me feel tired all day, too. So, I usually take some Robaxacet (Tylenol + Muscle Relaxer) at night, which releives some of it, but also makes me drowsy enough to fall asleep. I may also add some THC, if I feel it is necessary to help me forget the pain and drift off to sleep. If the pain lasts for many days, and I have work that I must perform regardless, then sometimes I will take the Robaxacets all day and at night, for a couple of days. I also use a "Magic Bag" on the small of my back, as that is where I often injure myself, since I herniated a disc there some time ago and I sometimes overexert myself in my line of work.

I have a magic bag too. I am going to try it tonight as my back is aching again. Lambing is starting here.

No bath??? oh no!!!!! Have you seen the bathtubs that you walk in close the door and it fills? I think they look neat but I'd never have the patience to sit and wait while they fill and empty before and after the bath!

Whenever my back aches from lifting things or just plain sleeping funny, I like to do yoga that focuses on stretching my shoulder blades and gently twisting my spine. It makes me feel like I've wrung all of the toxins out of my body and my muscles tend to feel a lot better once they've been stretched.

I used to feel back aches and I was able to overcome it when I had an early morning sunbath at least 30 minutes for a week. Another thing is apply hot compress on your back especially if you're taking a rest.
