Well here's yet another photo of some of my seedlings. I have
6 cucumber plants and all but one are this size. I can't wait
until I sink my teeth into these juicy, tasty cukes this spring/summer. I love them sliced and mixed wioth a pint of sour cream. Sometimes
I'll add a couple of teaspoons of sugar with the sour cream.
Ever grow very juicy cukes?
As always.....

Same here at times.
I like that they have a high water content.
Makes them so juicy as a hot day snack.

Honestly I've only had really good luck w/ cucumbers the first year we lived here. We put them in the spot where some lilacs we dug out were situated. We've tried them in the garden and just don't have much luck. Any secrets to share on this one Grandpa Bob? And since you are in MN & I'm in WI when do you plant your seedlings? Do you cover them or ?? If I ever try this early the seedlings will be too big before the threat of frost is over. I'm in zone5 closer to lake Michigan.

Seedlings I usually start in early to mid March so they're ready to transplant outdoors anytime in mid April till May sometime. It depends on the threat of frost is all. Once the seedlings are large I stop watering them each day and let them sit till dry to keep them from growing too large and leggy. The area where I plant my garden beds I dig up about a foot deep then I add good black soil and compost or a few bags of manue mixing/turning well is all. Once that's done the first time the soil is very rich. Plus I make my own compost and add that as well a few times a year in and on top of the spoil.
As always.....

hi Grandpa Bob oh yes when I was a kid and into my twenties we grew a whole salad garden, my mom had the greenest of green thumbs and we always had cukes and tomatoes and celery and leaf lettuce, and boy were those salads so good. she would slice cucummbers really thin and mix vinegar , sugar and sour cream together and we really enjoyed them so much too. also just sliced with tomatoes and leaf lettuce and a good dressing, any old way. I loved to munch on them raw with some salt also was alway eating ripe tomatoes with the juice running down my chin. we sure do not get fare like that here at gold crest so I often buy fresh produce and keep it in my room as longas i can,

I'm sorry, right now, all I can think about is that joke going around about why a cucumber is better than a man.
going to wash brain out with soap now...

As i have told u i don't grow anything but love most anything out of a garden. I love cucumbers to. I like to put them in vinegar w/some dill weed, just plain in my salad, have put them in potato salad instead of pickles.

Hi GRANDPA BOB,
When my Mother was alive, she used to grow them in her green house, I always remember taking few home with me and having them in salad toss with olive oil and some lemon juice or have them with sour cream, gosh, you are making my mouth water, lol.
