I think is a less probability of fail, because many scientist and engineers have worked to build the most advance machine in the world. They probably thought about these issues. I am not a physist expert but as far i read about, the LHC will work in half of his maximum energie in this year, so to give scientists time to evaluate better what real happen. I think the probabilty of a small black whole appears is low because it requires lot of energie to build one in a specific conditions (thats i read), and even the LHC work in his full capacity is unable to produce one, because isn't capable to produce a lots of gravity in a short concentrated space. I dont know if the Higgs particle would be found, maybe can happens something else thats the scentist can't expect. But if they assume theoretically that particle exists, i think is a strong probabilty that we will detect that particle.
