Swayer as a Cop

At first I thought it was funny that Sawyer was a cop in flash "sideways" but then I realized it made perfect sense. It was just another way to hunt down the conman who caused his family tragedy and sure enough later in the show that was what came out. And they worked Miles and Charlotte into his "sideways" story. I was hoping they would show Miles' father after Miles mentioned him but they didn't. And, of course, they had to throw him in with Kate and they did it in a neat way.

I miss seeing the quirky, funny side of Sawyer too. The Sawyer we see on the island now is a bit too broodish for my tastes. I thought it was interesting to see Sawyer's flash sideways. Sawyer and Miles both look like they could be cops. I do think that deep down Sawyer is a good guy but what makes him so interesting is that you never really know what he will do next.

He certainly has the macho-ness to be a cop. And apparently a good undercover one too, based on that little "con" in the beginning which was really a set up. In the ending, he catches Kate. But if he was a cop the entire time, then why did he help her escape at the airport? He saw the cuffs on her. Cops don't usually just let a hand cuffed person walk out of the airport. Then again, I guess Sawyer is not a normal cop.

I actually really liked this angle. Sawyer underneath all his bravado is ultimately a good guy. Sure he wants to kill the guy who killed his family but he seems to ahve a need to save everyone else. It was nice to see him in a different light. These days he seems to have a pretty heavy chip on his shoulder on the island and we rarely get to see the fun, cheeky Sawyer from previous seasons. So I thought him being a cop was a nice change of pace and you're right it does make perfect sense.
