Many people might not know the history of the internet and the web but here is the thing.. They are not synonymous or having the same meaning. The internet is by far a global system of interconnected computers that uses TCP/IP to serve million or even billions of people worldwide. The internet was not really for the public, it was for the U.S. military making a network of computers only for military use and not until the mid 1990s it was now release into public due to the new organization who funded the internet and led it to be commercialize into public. The web is not the internet itself but an Application or Service developed by Berner-Lee. To cut this short the web is simply for collecting interrelated documents, hyperlinks and URLs containing videos, music, documents and etc. The web only needs the internet due to there TCP/IP or internet addresses. In short, No Internet = No Web but if No Web = There still can be an Internet. Nice to know facts.

Nice trivia in there but nowadays this two words seems very same now as they could not really see the difference behind the two words. But I was amazed that you still know it because this time these words can be used interchangeable already and no one would ever correct you for using it.

The reason why they are interchangeably used is that they don't know the history of the internet and web. Well I'm glad I helped to others what really is there difference. It is not only the Web who can use the internet but other technologies as well.

Technically we do use the word Internet and Web interchangeably because they seem similar to each other but to those who know it is not and its a good fact too. This must be why it is called "Inter Net" = Interconnected Network of Computers.

So, in short, web=a service, internet=a network of computers? No, I did not know that the web is different from the internet. I wonder what the world looks like without the internet. Not only we'll not be able to play video games, hospitals will run into some issues too.

Yes the web is a service in the internet. We can still connect computers even though we don't have a web. The main purpose of the web is the multimedia and the documents to be shared to another person using the Internet. Yeah I also wonder what would happen if the internet didn't got invented, probably we'd be reading books but we can still play video games but not online or multiplayer just single mode. Lol

This was very educational. Thanks. It's like a square can be a rectangle, but a rectangle can't be a square, sort of. Thanks and take care.

Hi friend thanks for sharing history of internet. Though i was aware, many members may not be. Simply put i will say internet is network of networks(OF computer) The WEB or World wide WEB application has made the internet so popular. The other technology/protocol that made difference is http and html. Ofcourse now .asp .php also have come and are ruling the web
