Winter gardening: mi cactii

Mi cactii - The shelf and some of my cactii. I will have to start giving some away as they grow and grow.

Summer is almost gone and I did not tend my garden as I should this last year. Lola was the naughtiest puppy I have seen and then my shoulder problems began. In top of all that, my plants suffered from lack of water when my mom was ill and I went to take care of her. The only plants that flourished in spite of all that were my cactii. So I decided to give them a break just before I went to the hospital and I painted the homemade shelf where I had some of them and bought coarse sand and more flowerpots to separe them. I can do that on the terrace table so my shoulder does not hurt much. Cactii are miracle plants: they bloom at different times of the dayand the year and accept all kinds of mistreatment. This winter I will start pampering them while I return to my normal self and daydream what I will plant next Spring. I´m a plant lover. How about you? Do you have pet plants that are faithful in difficult times? Do you feel plants respond to love even when you can´t take care of their other needs as you should? Gardeners friends: share! Happy posting

Oh, I love flowers and most other kinds of plants, but I must admit that I have a black thumb (that would be the opposite of a green thumb, right?). I know that cacti are supposed to be hearty and all, but I can even kill them without trying, although they do survive marginally longer than the other kinds of plants that I have tried to grow. I kept one of my cactus alive for a couple of years until I forgot to bring it in from the cold and froze it. Right now, I have two mini rose bushes that I have not yet killed and have actually managed to nourish enough to bloom, but the one is looking a little sickly at the moment.

Roses are more difficult than cactus and requite pruning at the right time. I much prefer easier to gorw plants as I tend to forget the watering part. In my country we use horse manure for roses and its put at the end of Winter.

I can kill cacti, plants would do better without me... Cats demand to be feed, that's why they survive!

Congratulations for having cacti that thrives in different seasons. How did you do that anyway. I also want to have cacti in our garden, but unfortunately they don't last long enough for me to see their flowers blooming. I reside in the Philippines, a tropical country in the Southeast Asia. Though I wish, winter is not part of our country's seasons: rainy and sunny weather. How does one take care of cacti? Is there a website or a book you can share to use, who also wants to experience the beauty of these thorn-covered plants. Good luck with your cacti and the recuperation of your shoulder and your mom.

I suppose that different types of plants belong to different climates We import magos but we can grow cactus. Our summers are dry and our winters are mild

I'm not any good at taking care of plants, myself. I wanted to say that I love cactus plants, though. I like them mainly because they grow out in the deserts in the western part of the united states and I love anything about the west. That's because I ride horseback a lot and a lot of cowboys are out that way. We have them (cowboys) here in Alabama, too, lol. I didn't know that cacti were such miracle plants. This is interesting. I especially like the ones with the blooms on them. Kathy.

I think it's interesting that youall are getting ready for your winter season. I'm in the states and we're about to have spring. Your seasons are the opposite to ours. I used to have a pen pal in Australia and their seasons are the opposite to ours, too. I believe it's because of the way the sun revolves around the earth. Kathy.

A lot of my plants did not survive the transition from southern to northern California, but my spider plant, my cactus, my Christmas cactus and my Hawaiian star flower appear to be flourishing despite a lot of neglect.
