Self Tanner

I use the self tanner all year long, myself, because I like to stay tanned all the time, not just in the summer. However, the stores really stock up on them closer to summer. I know they keep them throughout the year but I think it would be nice if they stocked up this much on them all the time. I can't use the tanning bed because it breaks me out. I used to go to a tanning bed all the time when they first came out years ago. However, I started breaking out from it and my dermatologist advised me not to go back. Several people told me years ago that it might be the cleaning solutions they use to clean the beds with that was breaking me out. I went back to one at the gym where I used to work out since then and I broke out again. I haven't been to one since and I really don't think they are good for people, myself. I have a sensitive skin, anyway. I used to work at a spa here in town where I did nails and we did the airbrush tans there. I used to get those there occasionally. Now, I can't afford them. I used to lay out in the sun all the time in the summer. I still do occasionally whenever I have a breaking out. I think a little bit of sun is good for your skin. This same dermatologist who told me not to go back to the tanning bed any more would sometimes tell me that I needed to get a little sun on my hands or wherever I had a breaking out. However, too much sun ages you and causes skin cancer. If I could afford it, I would get the airbrush tans whenever. I know they don't last, though. I prefer the self tanners to laying out or using the tanning bed anytime. They are safer and the least expensive. Do you use the self tanners? Or do you prefer laying out, going to the tanning bed, or getting the airbrush tans?

I try to get a bit of sun on my legs but I don' worry about an all out tan. it is very bad for your skin. I haven't tried the airbrush tan yet but I have considered it. I have used self tanners before but have never really been happy with the results. What kind do you use?

I use the Sublime Bronze tinted self-tanning lotion from L'Oreal. I get the deep natural tan shade because I want to be a little bit darker than I naturally am. I don't lay out in the sun much any more, either, because like you said, I know it's not good for your skin. Every year in the latter part of May or early part of June, my back breaks out between my shoulder blades. That's usually when I want to get a little sun on my back. Kathy.

I do not do any kind of tanning any more esp. after being scared with skin cancer. I was shocked when my dr. found a tiny black spot above my ankle and he quickly removed it telling me he thought it was malignant melanoma. Scared is not the word! My grandfather had skin cancers from the sun too but his was ok. My results turned out to be a black mole but I've sworn off tanning unless it just happens. Do as you want but alway follow your drs orders. God Bless

I'm so sorry to hear about you having this black spot. I bet it did scare you sure enough! I know I would've been scared, too! I'm just glad the doctor could remove it right away. You don't ever have to worry about me not ever listening to my doctor. Mother always listened to her doctors pretty much. However, both of parents thought it was kind of funny in a way because I listened to my doctors to the hilt! Thank you for responding. Kathy.

I never get it even, myself, lol. I don't care, though. I use it, anyway. I especially like to use it on my face. I was aware that the sun has vitamin D in it. I don't guess a little sun will hurt you too much. Thank you for responding. Kathy.

They use to think the sun wouldn't hurt you. I don't think it hurts to get a little bit of sun, though, because it does have vitamin D in it. I used to lay out a lot but I felt like it was aging me so I quit. Like I said, it also causes skin cancer. I prefer to use the self tanners anytime. Thank you for responding. Kathy.

Alot of the time self tanners will either leave streaks or they will come out too orange. One time I had this self tanner and forgot to wash my hands anfter applications and my fingers were entirely orange! I perfer just to lay in the sun. Its nice.

I agree that laying out in the sun is relaxing. However, the sun ages you and causes skin cancer. There is cancer in my family and I try to be careful. I remember when the self tanners first came out years ago, they did turn your skin orange. This that I use now is streak free. It's the Sublime Bronze from L'Oreal. I get the deep natural tan shade because I like to be a little bit darker than I normally am. Thank you for responding. Kathy.
