jumping

Does anyone find that just as you are about to get to sleep your muscles suddenly jerk and you jump like you just got a fright? What is this and why? I've had times when it felt like my heart stopped and restarted too, is this weird or anyone had the same?

I also find that just before i go to sleep my body jumps. The reason for this i think is that all the muscles and nerves relax and when they are totally relaxed then that is what happens.I hate it when my husbands body suddenly jerks as this freaks me right out as well as wakes me up.There has even been times when he has hit me aswell as kicked into me when his body has jerked.

I've jumped clean out of my skin from time to time, and I've also felt like my heart has stopped for a second. I think maybe its because your body starts to fall asleep normally but your mind tell you that it's not normal so your reflexs kick in. But I'm not a doctor so don't quote me on that.

I also have the same kind of jerk. I have a suspicion that whenever I'm happy, by the time I go to sleep I will have this involuntary shock. If I make my mood a little loury maybe it won't happen b'cuz my emotional disposition disable any trigger happy reactions inside of me. I have yet to confirm though.

When you are right on the brink of falling asleep, and your muscles relax suddenly, you body feels as though it is falling. When a person is falling the muscles relax in this same way. When you jerk out of it, your mind has recognized that it is falling, and the muscles then tense from fright.

Hey, where did you get that from? It would definately make sense, is it for real? Thanks...

Your reaction sounds a little extreme to me. But I know what you are talking about. You might be unconsciously forcing yourself to stay awake while consciously making an effort to sleep.
