Does this kind of story make you not want to help people? It is scary but I do think it is right to help others. I hope they catch these guys and put them away for a very long time. I feel for his kids and girlfriend.

I feel sorry for the kids, the fiance (the rest of his family and friends). I think many of us would jump in and try and help, like he did. I don't think you think about what could possibly happen to you; you just react. When they catch this bunch of thugs, I hope they nail them good, as adults, not juveniles.

Yeah, like those security guards (can't remember where) who stood by while one teenager kicked the h*ll out of another teenager awhile back... It seems to me it was in PA. But to stand by and do nothing...gees. I would have taken a cane after them (unfortunately, or fortunately, I don't use a cane yet... I would have had to use my mom's cane...or her walker.)

Oh my gosh! That is so sad! I read the long article from the actual newspaper. It's so sad! He has a 6 year old daughter and a 6 month old daughter! I feel so bad for them, and of course for his would be fiancee. I really hope they get some help and are able to live comfortably, while of course probably living heart broken too.
Despite this story (and I'm sure, many stories like it) I don't think I would just be able to stand around or ignore someone in distress--especially a kid. I'm only 21 so it's hard for me to think of a 16 year old as a child, but they still are. Having said that, I couldn't watch an adult in danger/pain without trying to help too.
I think Orland is very brave, and I hope people remember him...and not just his family.

Oh definitely! I bet their mom will tell them the story all the time! I know I would if I ever went through something like this *knock on wood*

Even after reading this story I would still want to help. This story just enforces my belief the people should be allowed to carry self-defense weapons. The police cannot possible be every where, so we need to be able to protect our self from those that would mean us harm.

It is so sad to hear about things like this. I just wish the world was less violent and that things like this did not go on. I hate to hear about innoccent people getting killed.
