Mtv used to only have music videos. Now mtv mostly only has tv shows which are mostly reality shows. Did you enjoy the music videos more or the current style with shows. I watched and enjoyed MTV a lot more when they actually showed music videos, they are "music television", or supposed to be. Please share your opinion. Do you like the current MTV with almost all television shows and reality shows? Did you like MTV more when they showed music videos? How do you feel about how MTV has drastically changed over the years?

i liked mtv in the mid 90's when they had a good mixture of both music and reality shows. the early real world and road rules were awesome and had great stories about real people, not just drunkenness. TRL was great for watching the most popular music videos. now its all about teenagers who do stupid stuff with their lives.

Hey webguy I haven't looked at your profile page so I don't know how old you are. I remember when MTV first hit the air waves with the original veejays back in the 80's and yes I loved Duran Duran. And I notice a lot of the music video channels are now mostly tv shows. I not only enjoy rock, and light music but also country and I am finding even on their country video channels there are more reality shows on there. I only like a couple shows on there but I would rather see music videos on all of the channels. Which is why they were there to begin with. Not sure if you have the MTV 2 channel or VH1 classic but that is where you have to find all the videos now. Now to see videos I go to You Tube or that bands own website and you can see videos there. I do miss the days when you could sit there for a hour or a few and watch videos. Some new and some you hadn't seen in a while. The good old days.

I can remember late at night at my grandmothers house staying up watching music videos on mtv. Now if you want to see them you have to get up early to catch the video count down and that is all you see. I enjoy seeing the videos for songs that I like. I wish they would show them more. I do like a lot of the shows mtv has on too. I think they just need to get a better balance of the shows and the music.

Exactly. I also have a lot of good memories of watching videos on mtv when I was younger. I think it's funny that mtv stands for "music television" but doesn't currently have much of any music at all these days.

I think MTV does show a lot of TV shows as opposed to music videos but there is MTV Hits, MTV Base and MTV dance which do play more music videos.

I think I like MTV more now than before. I like that they started with the shows, so it has more diversity. But still I think they have too many shows and a lot of them are kinda bad. But still they have some good ones, like Disaster Date for example.

Ok. Excellent. This is why I started this discussion. I wanted to hear different opinions of people who like the old MTV and people who like MTV now the most. Great to hear both sides and why. Thank you for sharing Techgurl.

Maybe they've just added some new twist on the channel. Anyway, I loved MTV before only for the segment they called "after school rock", this is the segment where they played music videos of not so popular rock bands. Currently I don't know If the segment is still on the go. Well, I hate it when you are waiting for more music videos over a music video's channel and on the TV are people talking, making recaps, reviews and whatever unrelated to music video's. I should say that I like the MTV before rather than the current.

I like MTV now partly because I enjoy a little reality TV, but I do think that MTV should have more balance in there programing, meaning they should add more music videos to there line up so we can still enjoy both music and other entertainment.

MTV is no longer showing here in my country. I used to watch it before but suddenly there are changes and after that I cant watch it anymore in the channel where it was showing everyday. I enjoyed watching it because of its videos, I dont know much about it now. I don't know where can i watch it again but you said that MTV is no longer showing a lot of music videos but only a show. Well if that is true I am not interested to watch it anymore.

MTV in my opinion is now unnecessary. With YouTube and the internet, people can watch whatever they want, including music videos, whenever they want. Even worse than that, MTV used to be fun, vibrant and informative. These days, the shows are mostly self indulgent and un-relatable to most people. I loved MTV back in the days when VJs were eloquent, witty and effortlessly cool. Now, not so much. Sadly, it looks like its days are numbered.
