Do you think American Idol should call it quits after this season?

The last few seasons, I've found it hard to cheer for people on American Idol because there hasn't seemed to be anyone with real 'star power'. Ok, so there have been a few, but a lot of times it was just 2-3 per season and the rest made you wonder why they were even on the show. This season is no different and last nights episode proved that. It was not only boring, but half the people stunk! I like some of them, but they aren't quite there yet. Now we know Paula is gone, and rumor is that Simon is gone after this season. So I personally think, the show needs to end. They are just not finding the same talent they did before. Or maybe if they take a few years off, they can come back with a bang! Maybe they need to spend more time finding talent instead of just 1 audition and a week in Hollywood. What do you think? If some of these people don't start to step it up, I will probably stop watching after this season. It's just disappointing to invest so much time into watching and then have no real stars out there!

Yup, I can't help but to agree. I love Idol, but this time round it's really making me yawn watching. I even tried to catch some performances on youtube, and the quality is waning or perhaps not there at all. There are of course some great talents, but they lack that X factor or something. I hope there will be more contestants like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Fantasia etc. Idol really needs a super makeover. When Simon goes off already, I don't know how the ratings will fare.

Yes they lack the X factor for sure. Kelly, Carrie, and some others were larger than life - they had great voices AND personalities AND stage presence. But it doesn't seem like the people they picked this year have anything special. I wish they would work with the contestants more to try to sculpt them in to something good, but instead they are largely leaving the contestants on their own.

Yeah but they seem really clueless, don't they? I do think the judges are giving them a lot of misdirection this year. One show they will say "sing younger", then the next "well that was younger, but you still shouldn't sing that". So I guess my thought was - the judges seem to know exactly what they want these people to sing, so why don't they just come right out and say it :)

They are supposed to leave the contestants on their own. It is a competition and these kids are supposed to be able to figure out what type of artist they want to be. Pick songs that fit their voice and come up with their image. If the judges do everything it is then it just becomes another formula with a few hits til the next one. If you got it then it will show even in the early stages you will see the little spark and are just waiting for them to light the fire.

Simon is leaving after this year. He is going to be starting a new talent show called The X Factor it will be on Fox next year. I just think this is a bad crop of kids like season 3 with Fantasia couldn't stand her and am not surprised nothing came of her. Idol will be back next year and then we will have to wait and see what happens. I will still watch just to see what it will be like without Simon. That might be the last year of Idol I know the ratings will go down once Simon leaves.

Yeah a lot of people watch just to see what Simon says! I guess they will probably produce another show, continuously trying to get more viewers, but for one thing it seems to be turning into a teeny-bopper show. In the past it used to attract people of all ages, but now I'm seeing more and more adults are getting turned off b/c the teeny boppers are doing most of the voting. They even had teeny bopper performers last night - Miley, Demi and Jonas

Since I don't vote anymore I record Idol and watch the next day. I skip all the teeny bopper stuff but I see where you are coming from. Miley as a mentor? Please. At least we didn't have to have Billy Ray and his Achy Breaky Heart.

I usually record it and FF through it as well. There are usually two shows on for me on Tuesday nights, so I watch one of them live. I usually watch the Biggest Loser live and then FF through Idol... but this week I watched Idol live and realized why I usually FF through it :) I haven't vote either, this season, because no one is really fantastic. But I did vote a few times last season for Adam. Although I don't like the way Adam turned out after Idol, he was good when he was ON idol.

to be honest i think i am one of the few people who has never watched this show. i absolutely no interest in it but i think it has run its course and they should probably call it quits and try to come up with something new and fresh.

There are others out there like you who haven't watched. I didn't watch every season but I watched a lot of them. Even as a fan, I think it's time they quit while they are ahead, b/c they are slowly starting to lose it!

I think they can stop the show for a period of time, say for maybe 2 to 3 years and then make a comeback after that. It might be a good idea, because reality shows like this might make people sick and tired of them after a long run. As for talent wise, there are winners or should I say even losers that make it big after the show, such as Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood as well as Jennifer Hudson and Chris Daughtry. Yes, I know less then half of the alumni make it big, but that doesn't means that the show is meaningless and should be discontinue.
