Has a stranger called your number but you thought it was a friend joking?

My son frequently calls me & puts on fake accents. His phone is usually set to 'number witheld' so, I have had some interesting conversations.
Just before Christmas, I answered a call and a girly voice said "Hello this is Chloe"... obviously, had to be my son, so I used the same voice back to ask how 'she' was. 'She ' then asked who I was & i claimed to be one of Santa's elves. She paused for a bit & then said she'd put her boyfriend on the line. 'He' (still obviously my son, right?) asked who the h*ll I was... 'Santa's elf'... how old i was...'all Santa's elves are very old'....which school I went to....'Dont be silly, elves dont go to school'..... if I was stupid 'Yes' - and then screamed down the phone that I was a f***ing idiot. (How rude! I wasn't the one who'd dialled the wrong number...)
Just last week I told a man who was trying to contact "Alice" that "she dont live 'ere no more" and had moved to Bognor Regis.
I'm glad these people called my mobile and not the landline.
has that happened to you?

Hiya Wizzy,
I often do things like that too when I get fed up of certain people calling although I usually put the phone down on them. That goes for all those clever clogs that phone with a hidden phone number.
Well I won´t tell you what I told the last person but I do often come out with things like that too. Wizzy you are a one I have to laugh as these People who phone like that usually do not have the same sense of humour as the other one on the end of the phone.
It´s a shame I cannot practice my accents on them as they would not understand a word of what I am talking about however I can do a few Spanish dialects so they had better watch out (grin).
Most times I do like everyone else hang up the phone but a bit of fun every so often does not come amiss don´t you think?

I was getting a lot of texts starting "Hi Daaron" & offering loans. I just deleted them thinking some company were just texting random numbers and then got a call on my landline asking for this person. I told them - he doesn't live here, no-one of that name has EVER lived here, this is MY phone which no-one else has even owned or used and please delete this number from their records. I've had one or two texts since but nothing like as often.

Oh, I know! We'd been living at our last place for about 3 years when some bloke rang and asked to speak to Margaret... I told him there was no-one called Margaret there. He insisted that there was & that he always called her on that number, that it was HER phone and not mine. I explained that I was in MY house, where I had lived without Margaret for 3 years answering MY phone. I told him to look in the directory under my name and he would see the number... he even told me MY number so he couldn't have just misdialled. I asked if maybe he'd got the wrong area code but he said he hadn't. He got really cross so, in the end I had to just say,"I'm sorry but I'm going to put my phone down now..."

Hiya Wizzy,
Have said it before and will say it again some mothers do have them. They just don´t give up. Every so often they keep calling here for a guy that used to have this Phone number and I patiently explained to them about three times that a Telephone number when you give it up is given to someone else and you just could not believe how dense they were or wanted to be dense.
The fourth time around it was them again and so I thought right if you want to be like that take that and I just slammed the phone down in their little ear holes which must have been filled with cotton wool at the time I was explaining to them about the phone number. Do other People think we are so silly or something.? Yes I guess they do (grin).
Glad to see your text messages are waning maybe they will give up along the line too.

My younger brother likes to do this to me sometimes..lol But we have people call here atleast 3-4 times a month wanting someone else..especially more so throughout the months of November and December. Just last week a little old lady called wanting someone named Stacy..well, I know a Stacy...and have a few in my and hubby family...but it wasn't the ones she wanted. We have had calls from Arizona and other far off places wanting someone else..at 3 am in the morning..which kinda ticks hubby off since he rarely gets back to sleep..but I guess I can be glad not to get prank calls that early in the morning my brother knows not to call after a certain time at night and thankfully respects that unless it is a emergency.

I'm guessing that "Chloe " was probably just trying to call a friend and mis-dialled... I hope I didnt do her any permanent damage by saying I was an elf. The background noise sounded like she was in a bar so she may have been confused enough in the first place!

No, but I have called a wrong number and thought that the person I intended to call was joking. Embarrassing!

I did ring a friend and someone with a very posh accent answered. I thought it was the friend putting on a refined 'telephone' voice so I did an equally affected voice and asked "Oh, hello. Is that Mrs Carter".... when she said no I just said "You litt-le liar!!"... It wasn't her... luckily, the woman took it in good part but said it was just as well her mother hadn't answered.

Those are some embarrassing situations for me. I hate when I dial the wrong number, of course I've gotten less embarrased and just say "I'm sorry" the last time I dialed a wrong number it went to the voice mail and said the person's name. I remember back when I was younger I dialed the wrong number trying to dial my granny, my mama was sitting beside me and so when I started crying she took the phone I think.

Your story reminds me of when we used to get telemarketers calling up for a Mrs McDonald when we first got this phone number that we have now. We changed numbers because of constant calls by telemarketers to our old number.
This stopped them calling looking for us but when we started getting them for Mrs McDonald every day and every day we told them she did not live here, I lost the plot and yelled at them that she is off with Ronald and does not wish to be called anymore! (Ronald McDonald)

Bognor Regis? I had to look that up... was thinking it was some other world in a science fiction story I should know. But nope, it's a real place, evidently. Have you been?

Well I've never thought one of my friends was joking with me, but I do get an obnoxious number of wrong-number phone calls. I really hate it when I answer and the person on the other end immediantly says, "WHO is this?" like it's a crime for me to answer my own phone. lol
That was a pretty rude way for them to end the conversation. I bet it was funny though. :D
