There is not a lot a lot to go on just yet, but some scant reports comming out of the Brittish press state a south korean navy ship is sinking, possibly due to a torpedo strike. Reports also indicate that the south korean ship had fired shots at an unidentified ship from the north. there are joint training ops between the u.s. and south korean forces, not sure if they are going on now and this is an accident of some sorts, but indications are that the attack on the south korean ship came from the north. This comes at the same time that North Korea has reittereated it's threats of a nuclear strike on u.s. forces in response to the joint drills. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/8589507.stm

Well I am reading the news link and two things pop out at me. First clashes like this have happen before with out creating a war. 1999 At least 17 North Korean sailors were believe to be kill by naval fire. 2002 Four South Korean sailors and an estimated 30 North Koreans killed in a naval battle. Second this South Korean ship looks to me to be in North Korean water or at lest very close to be in North's water. I am looking at the map provide by the BBC. Now I do read that the South is saying that the Northern ship had crossed the line, but it is a question who do you believe. The North is not trust worthy, but it is possible that the South had provoked the North into action.

I wish there was more information to go on. I know the two nations have had recent skirmishes in recent years, but this comes at such a horrible time. there are also reports comming out of the south korean press that the S.K. government has convened an emergency session of it's security-related ministers and there are reports now from various ham radio stations that north korea has just gone on high alert. I am going to probably hijack your response to put in updates as I get them by the way, lol..hope you don't mind..

You can call me naive but I think. Its time to end this war. Why not U.S. and South Korea attack the North Korea? Let just say they are doing a rescue mission. Lots of North Koreans are dying because of famine and North Korean Government don't give a damn. If U.S. Is master of democracy they will end the war right now. They attack Iraq, liberate Afghanistan. Why can't they do that in North Korea? .. The ugly truth is that United States of America policy is economy. Not democracy. They will sacrifice democracy of one poor country for the sake of economy. .. Look at Cuba. Until now the impose economic embargo? The only reason is that Cuba is a socialist state. Cuba is not a treat to America. But I can say America is a treat to Cuba. The reason U.S. hates Cuba because U.S. can't gain economically in Cuba. .. In all the wars that U.S. involved itself. Its all go down to economy and not democracy. .. Why did U.S. revolt? Its not because of democratic issue its about economic issue. .. America is money. Its green pasture is green money. Just change n in green to d. That is the simple of U.S. ..

Well actually, Cuba was a potential threat to US, when it was allied with the old Soviet state who planned to site missiles there. US conveniently forgets it has bases in Japan. Now, such nuclear bases were not sited or where withdrawn under threat of action. At that point no such threat from Cuba remained but US continued its persecution of Cuba for political reasons all the best urban

Scary where this could lead. I read all of the postings and your updates. This along with relations with Israel and Russia, these all are worrying me. I think if we had a stronger leader, things would be different. I think the milk toast we have now, I just dont know where this will all go.

Also would like to reiterate that this is kind of hard to find in the news. Is this not news?

oddly enough, we had just been watching M*A*S*H before the news came on (if you are not familiar with the tv show, it takes place in Korea during the war in the 1950s) and then heard this. could this be another replay of that war?

I heard about this around 2 this afternoon. This would NOT be a good thing for anyone if something happened here. Our military is stretched to thin to actually assist the South Koreans, and we really can't do anything like an embargo on the north.

Keep us updated on this..We need to keep an eye on it. Especially sence we have our military in the area. If North Korea is firing on our troops...things could get messy.
