If you live in the city environment or maybe visit a big city, you'll find there are tons of food street vendor. New York for example, you can find the hot dog and pretzel. Not only that New York even has like Middle Eastern Food Street Vendor. Now back when i was in Indonesia, that's even crazier, they even have food street vendor that actually going around your neighborhood. Back then my stomach is really "strong" I can just eat them easily and won't get any stomache. You know this kind of food you buy from street vendor is "EAT AT YOUR OWN RISK" After 4 years live in suburb, I think my stomach adjusted already. No food street vendor around here, so mainly I eat the clean , hygenic , home food. But nothing feels like buying and eating this food you get from the street. I kind of miss them so much. How about all mylotters. Do you or have you ever buy this food? What's famous from your area?

I have not done only this in my 50 years of life. I am not criticizing any one here or the street vendors. I was taught in my childhood that we should not eat outside food and especially which is prepared at the road side. From then onwards till now I hesitate to eat. By this my circle dislike me and say that I do not give them company - but I take care of my health and not the circle. Let them feel anything..... By the grace of God I keep a Good health till now.... This I am explaining according the city in which I live. There may be beautiful places where all the precautionary measures would be taken,,,,for health...

You seem to be a lucky person as your body built the immunity. Most of the people suffer from one or other problem. I get acidity when ever I eat say for 6 months once,Hence I totally avoid street food. But one thing I can say that these days every one is enjoying eating outside food as it is cheap when compared with the hotel rates and no one has time to spend.

Before I used to eat foods from street vendors but now I seldom do that because I realized that it may be not that clean at all...what I'm talking about is the preparation. Don't know if it's prepared in a clean procedure or not.

That is always the big question mark. How clean it is. But I have to admit that sometimes "I don't even want to know" since they are good in taste.

Here in the Philippines there's a lot of street food in every corner. When I was young I used to eat them. but now I seldom do cause now I know the diseases I can get from eating them. But then every time I go to VietNam I still do eat street food there just to get the experience to eat their street food! Luckily, my stomach is also strong it does not get upset ever since..

This isn't something that is readily available in our city, so it is something that we are able to enjoy a few times a year. Fourth of July, parades or events downtown and the carnivals are the only times that we are able to have foods like this. I wouldn't say that there is really anything that is particularly popular in our area, but I can never pass up a funnel cake. I absolutely love those fried cakes.

Funnel cake is a must for summer season. I won't pass summer without eating at least one funnel cake.

Hi Dorann, I tasted that funnel cake when two years ago when me and my co-workers together with the teen moms in washington, dc watched a circus event in maryland. there were street foods then. what caught my attention was the funnel cake. i then learned that my co-workers loved it too.

Hi Ibuemma, Yes, i grew up in a community where street foods is a normal scene. the food is cheap and you will be encouraged to buy it. the smell is so iniviting. i love eating fishballs and squid balls. But when i had an allergy from it i stopped buiyng street foods. There's a lot of street foods but i promised myself not to buy anymore from them. If i want to eat fish and squid balls i buy it from the grocery store and cook it myself.

yes you are right. there is something in the street food that really attracts people to keep coming back. when we prepare it ourselves it's kinda different. but at least we are sure of the food that we prepare...sanitized.

I agree with what you said about street food. They're really risky to eat but they can be fun and efficient to eat at times. Me and my friends usually grab street food when we're too lazy to get dressed and dine in a good restaurant. Since most of my friends are tired of fast foods we opt to grab street foods instead. If you're already bothered by the street food in new york, you should try what we have here in the Philippines. Get ready friend, your tummy might not be able to handle it! One of the most popular street foods we have is fish/squid/chicken balls. They're deep fried processed meat that you get on sticks and eat with sweet and sour sauce or spicy vinegar with chopped onions. Those aren't so bad. We have this street food called "isaw," it's my personal favorite but I found it really disgusting before. It's barbecued chicken or pig intestines. We also have "balot" or chick/duck egg. It's similar to hard boiled eggs, only that it has a chick inside the egg instead of a hard-boiled yolk. You eat it the similar way you eat hard boiled eggs. And we have "betamax," made out of boiled pig blood which turns into jelly like form. I haven't tried that and have no plans to even lay my fingers on them. Well that's about it, I might scare you off already lol.

Actually I grew up in Indonesia, where most of the street food is hot and spicy, and fatty...LOL..name it, all exotic ingredient there. Hahaha...all those inside stuff, sound familiar.

I do buy food from street vendors now more than I used to. I buy churros a lot now, but when I lived in England there was a place I used to buy the most delicious bagels from. They were stufffed with things like cream cheese and smoked salmon or tuna mayo with olives.

Depends on what is available outside and whether the evironment is lcean or not. Most of the places in india, are not very hygienic. Thats the reason why i tend to avoid eating stuff from street vendors. Then also, as you mentiones, if u have a "Strong" stomach, then you can digest anything you eat. as for me, i dont think i come under that strong stomach category. Hence avoid street vendors food places beacuse i find it hard to actually analyse whether they use good quality ingredients or not... Cos my health is at risk!!

It's not really like strong stomach like you mention, it's just probably your stomach getting used to it.

well, for your stomach to get used to it, it must be strong enough to sustain the 1st few such intakes right?? Just say, u may need to eat a couple of times to get used to it. What if your stomach isnt strong enough and u fall ill before even getting used to it??? Thats what i meant by saying you must have a strong stomach!!

Yes I do but seldom since I cant find lots here in Japan. Sometimes I even find the food more delicious than what I eat on a classy restaurants. I love the casual ambiance while eating the food I buy on the sidewalks. But knowing the risk it might cause, I do it very seldom. I miss hopping the sidewalks too bad Im quite busy these days to have a sidewalk food trip.

I know, a lot of times they are more tastier than the one in a restaurant. That's what I miss too, hoping on the side of the street, and try something new.

I often buy and eat food from street vendors. I don't know why I don't really care how clean it is or its nutritional value, sometimes it's just so addicting. The street foods that are famous in our area are hotdogs, barbeque, and squidballs.

Street foods are really part of our life. I love some of them like the fish balls and empanada. I do not mind about hygiene because our city is looking into that, there are inspectors even if it's called "street foods". Gone are the days when they say that dirty ice cream is literally dirty. I don't know about the other cities but my city is looking into hygiene. I think what's nice about street foods is when you're on the go, you can just grab a burger around the corner and dig into some coins inside your pocket. Yeah, it's convenient. Moreso when it is a fad (as most street foods are fad), you'll feel that you're no different from that executive waiting for his turn next to that food stand.

That's what happen in Indonesia too. Street food more like cultural stuff. And specially for traditional food, the one in the restaurant won't taste as good as the one on the street.

here in the philippines, there are a lot of street food vendor and honestly they are way cheaper so many people buy their product. for me, sometimes i do bought some street food when i really like the food like fish balls and peanuts. before i will buy i would first observe the vendor because he/she is not hygienic. there are really a lot of popular street foods here. i was say people sell on the street what they think people would like to eat.besides, we filipinos love to eat.
