Do you think it's better if power is out?

Due to shortage of power (due to lack of rain) in my area. We have frequent scheduled power outages usually lasting minimum of 1hour and 30mins and maximum of 2hours (which is actually better because some areas have up to 8hours). Anyhow, I find that whenever there are power outages, people usually get time to talk, all would gather around and just hang out. Children (young adults) would get out of their rooms and just have group talks and stories together with adults and young children.
Then when the lights come back, people disperse and go back to their television, internet, and etc.
Sometimes I'm really wondering if it does good for the people if there were power outages. You see, we tend to be very busy with our own personal lives, talking to our friends etc. neglecting that there are people who are close to us that we no longer have time to bond with.
Well, I'm only speaking about relationships though, for I know that companies would soon shut down due to power outages and more time lost and costs due to power outages.
But, what do you think?
Have you noticed something good when there are power outages in your area?

i think the occasional power failure, a must, helps. there is this annual thing of encouraging everyone to turn off their lights for 1 hour, right? we cannot blame people if they resort to their normal activities for this is either what they do for a living and/or the most economical way of letting their time pass. what is important is people actually learn to be contented with anything and everything: less wants means less production that causes pollution from factories that send off smoke that harm the ozone and thus prevent normal weather. contentment in the child or children they have: less people means less needs, right? besides, it is additional responsibility on our part as parents. we are more assured that we can provide proper upbringing morally and financially if we get contented by what fate gives us.

I like the way you think! Yes, I think a power outage can definitely be turned into a good thing. Most people would probably think of it as a negative. I would also, but it doesn't happen often at all. I actually wished it happened more often at work because then we could go home! We've had tornadoes, blizzards, and other severe weather, but I've never been able to go home due to weather. The only reason I would be a able to leave work due to harsh circumstances would be due to a power outage. That's happened once in the three years I've worked there, and we had to stay until the power came back on...I think it took about 30 minutes to an hour for the power to come back, so it wasn't too bad. The last time I remember losing power at home was when I still lived with my parents a few years ago. We were getting back from somewhere and discovered we didn't have power. It was already starting to get dark out, so we pulled out the candles, put them on the kitchen table, and played card games with the entire family. It was amazing! I remember having so much fun just having family time because it didn't happen too often. That's one of my fondest memories! It would be neat to have a mandatory (planned) power outage like once or twice a month so we could do more things like this with the family.

Laydee,
I think you're right. Doing without electricity for short periods would do wonders for socialization and family life! Too much of what we do these days is totally solitary, as long as there's power in those electrical cords or batteries!

i kind of noticed that too! well, we do not experience any power outs here but whenever there is, every one would really gather around or do something they do not usually do... my nephew, a 6 year-old kiddo, would ride his bike until he gets tired or until the power comes... he'd rather play computer games than use his bike anymore... he doesn't go outdoors... so i agree, sometimes, it's better if the power is out.. LOL
